Mlada Boleslav – Today, the first fourth-generation FABIA rolled off the assembly line at the SKODA AUTO main plant in Mlada Boleslav. For the production of the fourth model generation of the popular small car, the production lines have been extensively adapted, the necessary investments total 110 million euros. For the first time, the FABIA is based on the MQB-A0 modular transverse matrix from the Volkswagen Group and, in addition to the best space in its class, also offers even better comfort and numerous new safety and assistance systems. The new FABIA has everything it takes to build on the success of its predecessors: since its debut in 1999, SKODA has delivered more than 4.5 million units of the small car to customers, making it the brand’s second most successful model after the OCTAVIA.

Michael Oeljeklaus, SKODA AUTO Board Member for Production and Logistics, emphasizes: “Production launches are always very special moments for which we prepare meticulously. Today we are celebrating the official start of production of the new FABIA. We have invested a total of 110 million euros in extensive modernization and further automation of the production processes. It's now paying off: It's great to see how each cog meshes and everything works smoothly. I would like to thank the entire team for the excellent team performance and I am pleased that through our work we can make a significant contribution to the FABIA's success story."

The SKODA FABIA is built on the same production line as the SCALA and KAMIQ model series. In the run-up to the start of production, the Czech automobile manufacturer made adjustments to the assembly line, the press shop and the welding shop. Numerous complex and physically demanding production steps are taken over by robots and in this way enable a high degree of automation of the production processes.

The first FABIA generation, presented in 1999, was one of the most successful models in the small car segment with more than 1.7 million units delivered. The second model generation, which has been on the market since 2007, also reached the 1.7 million unit mark. Including the third generation, which made its debut in 2014, more than 4.5 million FABIAs have been delivered worldwide since the model was launched.

In addition to its emotional design, the new SKODA FABIA also impresses with new proportions and is based for the first time on the MQB-A0 modular transverse matrix. The platform from the Volkswagen Group enables significantly expanded safety and comfort features. With its length of 4.108 millimeters, the new model generation surpasses the four meter mark for the first time and offers a width of 1.780 millimeters more space than its predecessor. The trunk volume, already the largest in the segment in the previous generation, has increased by 50 to 380 liters in the new edition.

SKODA offers the new FABIA with front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox or an automatic 7-speed direct shift gearbox (SKODA FABIA 1.0 TSI DSG 81 kW/110 hp: combined fuel consumption 4.7 – 4.6 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions 108 – 105 g/km). Five petrol engines from the current EVO generation from the Volkswagen Group combine low emissions with high efficiency and dynamics. The FABIA achieves a drag coefficient of cd 0.28, setting the record in the small car segment. In combination with the optional 50-liter tank, this enables ranges of more than 900 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. In addition, the new edition has numerous assistance systems on board that were previously reserved for higher vehicle classes.

The specified consumption and emission values were determined according to the legally prescribed measurement methods. Since the 1st. As of September 2017, certain new vehicles will already be type-approved according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), a more realistic test procedure for measuring fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Since the 1st. September 2018 the new WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) replaces the previous driving cycle (NEDC). Due to the more realistic test conditions, the fuel consumption and CO2 emission values measured according to the WLTP are in many cases higher than those measured according to the NEDC. More information on the differences between WLTP and NEDC can be found at www.skoda car.de/wltp.

The NEDC values are currently still mandatory to be communicated. In the case of new vehicles that are type-approved according to WLTP, the NEDC values are derived from the WLTP values. The additional specification of the WLTP values can be provided voluntarily until their mandatory use. Insofar as the NEDC values are given as ranges, they do not refer to a single, individual vehicle and are not part of the offer. They are used solely for purposes of comparison between the various vehicle types. Additional equipment and accessories (attachments, tire format, etc.) relevant vehicle parameters, such as. B. Weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics change and, in addition to weather and traffic conditions as well as individual driving behavior, influence fuel consumption, power consumption, CO2 emissions and the mileage of a vehicle.

Further information on the official fuel consumption and the official, specific CO2 emissions of new passenger cars can be obtained from the "Guide to fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and electricity consumption of new passenger cars" can be taken from all sales outlets and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen (www.that.de), is available free of charge.
