It has been rumored for quite some time – now it is official: the Austrian Rally Team Tree Structure Rally & Racing (BRR) as well as the company Kreisel Electric (Rainbach / Austria) can be used in the development of an electrically powered Fabia Rally2 Evo on the official support of Skoda Build motorsport. The Czech manufacturer announced that one adapted the chassis of a Fabia Rally2 Evo to the electric powertrain of gyro. Among other things, the chassis had to be changed to accommodate the fluid-cooled battery pack deep in the vehicle floor, it says in a message.
The electric motor developed by Kerse Electric supplies a peak power of 260 kW and develops a maximum torque of 600 Newton meters – compared to 214 kW and 425 nm of the 1.6-liter turbo-tin in conventional Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 52.5 kWh and supplies a voltage of 860 volts. “We not only share the vision for a sustainable future of motorsport,” says Managing Director Philipp Grippers. “We also pursue the same strategy of transferring technologies and technical solutions from racing on road vehicles.”
“The RE-X1 roundabout is an exciting combination of traditional and forward-looking technology,” commented Skoda MotorsportChef Michal Hrabánek, Head of Skoda Motorsport. “The concept vehicle offers all the latest generation setup opportunities – but with a fully electric powertrain.”His debut is to be the car as part of the Austrian championship already at the Rally Weiz of 15. to 17. July celebrate.
In order to be approved for missions in official competitions, the Skoda RE-X1 wire had to be formally homologated. Skoda Motorsport supported this process and will also be assisted in the further development by its long-standing customer and project partner BRR with know-how and technical advice, it is said in the message from Mladá Boleslav.
With more than 400 copies sold as well as numerous wins and title winning worldwide, the rally version of the Skoda Fabia is the commercial and sporty most successful car of its category. The first chassis for the concept vehicle is still an asphalt version. How to hear, BRR has expanded the development of the Skoda Re-X1 gyro but already on gravel routes.
