Sono Motors develops own bidirectional wallbox-bidirectional

With the first bidirectional AC wallbox on the market, the e-auto-start-up Sono Motor wants to fulfill the community of the community after an affordable wall charging station, both for the store at home and for vehicles-to-grid (V2G) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) is suitable. This makes the company of its vision – a world without fossil energies – a significant step closer, so Sono Motors in a current message. The Wallbox makes it possible to use the SION as a mobile power plant and to deliver stored electricity either back into the house or to the public power grid.

Above all, house owners with photovoltaic systems can thus therefore save considerably as they can use more of their own electricity themselves without buying an expensive home store. The Wallbox loads and unloads the Sion with a power of up to 11 kW AC via the integrated type 2 charging cable and should be up to 70 percent cheaper than the previously available bidirectional DC wallboxes. Already now it is possible to reserve the new wallbox free of charge, the delivery is expected to be with the Sion production start 2023.

“We want to drive the future of energy production and allow bidirectional charging for all. In combination with the integrated solar technology of the Sion, the new Wallbox means a breakthrough for bidirectional charging technology, as many homeowners can save the new acquisition of an expensive home store. For us, it is an important milestone on the way to 100 percent renewable energies.”- Laurin Hahn, CEO and founder Sono Motors

Each Sion is equipped as standard with a bidirectional charging system, the specially developed on-board charger (OBC), and can be connected to the SONO app for the mobile power plant. In addition to the operation of household appliances and the power transmission to other electric cars, the innovative bidirectional Sono wallbox should also be supplied with the energy stored in the sion.

Unlike the previously available DC wallboxes Sono Motors deliberately set on an AC wallbox and can thus offer one by up to 70 percent cheaper solution. This is possible, since the conversion of DC power in AC (DC / AC) takes place in the Sion itself and not in the wallbox – which reduces their costs significantly. The final price will be announced before the market launch in 2023, but he will lie in the lower four-digit euro area. The Sono Wallbox was developed together with the German manufacturer Kostal.

The control when the SION is loaded and unloaded, assumes a home energy management system (HEMS): The Wallbox communicates with the HEM via various protocols such as Z.B. EEBUS, MODBUS or OCPP. A Recommendation Which Hems are compatible with the Sono Wallbox, it should give it a timely start. The SONO app and the SONO infotainment can also be set, where the loading level of the vehicle battery is to be terminated in any case. This ensures that there is always enough range to cover the mobility needs.

Possible fields of application of the SONO Wallbox

Charging station for the Sion: The Sono Wallbox is able to fully charge the 54 kWh LFP battery of the sion in up to five hours, which is perfect for charging overnight and the range of up to 305 km guaranteed. In addition, the SION can be loaded via the integrated CCS interface on quick load columns at a speed up to 75 kW (DC), so in about 35 minutes to 80 percent charging.

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H): The vehicle acts as a power store and power plant for its own household, without a feed in the public network. So z.B. Power from the photovoltaic system or the Sion solar integration during the day in the battery of the sion are stored and delivered at night to the house.

Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G): The vehicle is directly or indirectly connected via a building to the power grid and the stored energy is fed back to the net. Instead of switching off wind turbines in times of energy surplus, the excess energy could be cached in the vehicle battery. In addition, load peaks can be deterted by a composite of electric cars. The more than 257.000 Planned Sion can thereby become the decentralized mega storage and pioneer on the way to 100 percent renewable energies.

Community decides on the design of the Sono Wallbox

The community decides on the design of the first Sono Wallbox. To choose from are the over 14.000 SION reservation holders now three different designs. Is tuned to the 13. September about the wallbox landingpage or live in the Sono House from 5. until 12. September. The Sono House is press and community event in one and takes place at the same time as the IAA in the Munich company headquarters of Sono Motors.

  1. Storytelling is always good and one has bred a target audience that much believes. I just seem to tear the logical thread slowly: I thought this car is on the roadside and invites himself. And therefore no wallbox does not need exactly.

The fit to the target group, because the gullivers are in total tend to be commercially less successful. So you usually have no property where you could install a wallbox. But now you need a wallbox to be able to offer the great benefits all. Hmmm. Especially since the intersection wallbox install with the possibility to install a solar system on the roof is relatively high.

Then you could come up with the idea of packing solar panels on the roof because it’s cheaper and more efficient than on a car. And so that the car shop. That would have the added benefit that you can choose cars that there are and that does not look like Getert. Whereby V2G at the time you claim to get on the market, with many other electro cars, too, z.B. The MEB vehicles are supposedly prepared for.

To you? … -> yes, the I could have impression too!

With me z.B. could serve the sion on a small lease plot outside the city, temporarily take over the power of the cottage for the weekend (both for tools and cooking and possibly. Entertainment), without I installing solar cells and extra storage and transducers or even take a single-time KM-wide connection and monthly fee to be paid!

Practical that the Sion u.a. For the AC-Bidi Wallbox + to be able to use its 3-phase 11 kWh converter (yes, fatigue form!)
