With the new EQS 53 4Matic + starts Mercedes-AMG in the fully electric future. The first battery-electrically powered series model is based on the EQ architecture for the luxury and upper class vehicles, it says in a communication of the company. The up to 560 kW heavy luxury sedan was re-or further developed in Affalterbach in terms of performance.
“The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC + is tailor-made for car enthusiasts looking for a combination of innovative electro-mobility in a luxurious ambience, paired with sportiness and agile driving dynamics,” says AMG-boss Philipp Schiemer. “In addition, he is another proof that Mercedes-Benz is consistently driving the electrification at all its brands.”
At the heart of the new electric AMG is a four-wheeled strand with one engine on the front and rear axle. The basic version provides a maximum of 484 kW (658 hp), the maximum E-machine torque is 950 nm. In 3.8 seconds it goes to Tempo 100, is controlled at 220. With the available Dynamic Plus package, the maximum performance in “Race Start Mode” increases to up to 560 kW (761 hp) at 1020 nm torque, for the standard spurt offenses 3.4 seconds and the propulsion ends at 250. Reasonable sound in tonality and intensity is adjusted to the respective driving state inside and outside, it says.
According to Amg, the E-machine is particularly powerful on the rear axle of the EQS 53 4Matic+. An essential reason for this is the hexagonal design, based on two windings with three phases each. In addition, the highly resilient thermal concept that allows repeated acceleration maneuvers with consistently high performance. At the heart of it is therefore the so-called water lance in the shaft of the rotor that cools it. The recuperation performance reaches up to 300 kW and is adjustable in three stages
Shortness of the charging times also has thermal management. Thus, if necessary, the battery is preheated or cooled during the ride to reach the optimum temperature for fast loading at the charging point. The intelligent control reduces the battery load during charging and slows down the natural aging process. The “Battery Certificate” of AMG is valid until a term of ten years or a mileage of 250.000 kilometers. Also new is the possibility to play updates for the battery management system “Over the Air”.
The plug AMG has air suspension and rear axle steering. Instead of the normal brake system, ceramic slices with front 44 centimeters diameter can also be arranged. In the interior, the standard MBUX Hyperscreen dominates, in which three screens fuse under a cover glass to a kind of wide-wall cinema from A-pillar to A-pillar.
