Less weight and more power for the GTI
1 of 5
A new Golf without a GTI version? Inconceivably. Of course, there is also a variant with the legendary abbreviation on the rear for the seventh generation.

With more power, torque and acceleration, of course, but also significantly less consumption. At least in theory.

The traditional GTI version is also back in the seventh generation of the Golf. This time even in two performance levels and more finely equipped right from the start. This is also reflected in the price.
W.A few months after the generation change, VW is again launching a particularly powerful variant of the Golf: the GTI. The manufacturer wants the series version at the Geneva Motor Show (Public days: March 7th to 17th), orders are possible from March 5th. At prices starting at 28,350 euros, there are two versions with different performance values right from the start.
The basic model receives a new 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with 220 hp and thus increases by ten hp compared to its predecessor. On request, there is a "Performance" version that generates 230 hp with the same four-cylinder and also has a differential lock on the front axle. In both cases, the power transmission is provided either by a six-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch transmission with six stages.
There are only small differences in the performance values of the two versions. The standard model accelerates to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds, the performance version only needs 6.4 seconds.
650 euros more expensive than the Golf VI
The top speeds are 246 and 250 km / h, respectively. The manufacturer specifies the consumption at 6.0 liters per 100 kilometers, with dual clutch transmission it is 6.4 and 6.5 liters respectively. The predecessor GTI still required 7.3 liters with 210 hp. The saving is also due to a weight reduction of 42 kilos. The curb weight is now 1351 kilos.
Visually, the seventh GTI sets itself apart from the bourgeois Golf with the usual insignia. These include the well-known honeycomb pattern on the red-rimmed radiator grille, which has been supplemented with additional ventilation grids at the bottom, special rims, checked seats and a steering wheel with a flattened bottom and red stitching. Overall, the appearance remains subtle as usual.
The equipment includes, among other things, xenon light, automatic air conditioning, parking sensors front and rear as well as progressive steering and 17-inch rims. Compared to the predecessor, this is a slight improvement. However, this is also reflected in the price: the plus compared to the Golf VI GTI is 650 euros.
