StoreDot presents in 10 minutes rechargeable 4680 cylinder cell-storedot

Storedot, an Israeli start-up associated with the energy company BP uses novel electrolyte solutions and nanomaterials in lithium-ion batteries. This allows batteries that can be loaded in just five minutes or even faster. So the previous announcement. Now the company was able to introduce a prototype, which is fully charged in just 10 minutes.

The format 4680 is used for this cylindrical cell, which is increasingly preferred by automobile manufacturers. The pioneering work for these groundbreaking technologies was started at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom in cooperation with Storedots Strategic Partner BP. It was further developed with the involvement of experts from all over the world. StoreDot itself has protected the fast-loading battery cell by patents. The cell design used – using its own TAB technology – increases throughput and triggers safety and performance problems that are normally connected to the harsh housing structure of cylindrical cells. The tests in the StoreDot system have promising low internal resistors. Pattern of cylindrical cells are now introduced to production lines at EVE Energy, StoreDot Production Partner in China,.

“The aim of loading a cylindrical cell in just 10 minutes extremely quickly, from the first day on the technology roadmap of Storedot. After three years of intensive development and testing in which we used various vectors of our first class research, I am very proud of the effective cooperation around the world that enabled this important success.”- DR. Doron Myersdorf, CEO of Storedot

For the company, this breakthrough means that global car manufacturers will be able to use Storedots XFC batteries that provide a 50% shorter charging time at the same cost of using both bag and cylinder cell shape. Both formats are located at EVE Energy in the Scale-Up process and will be ready for mass production 2024. In addition, thanks to this format variety, the entire industry will be able to use StoreDots newly introduced and patent-pending Boost Charging Technology (BOOCT) application.

Myersdorf further executes that both their cylinder and pouch cells are designed so that they are safe, reliable and stable and is expected to be produced by 2024 on a large scale. In addition, it will be done: “We are in advanced talks with a number of global car manufacturers and plan to supply them with different XFC cells to enable a quick transition to an emission-free, electrified future.”

  1. The format 4680 is used for this cylindrical cell, which is increasingly preferred by automobile manufacturers.

Apart from Tesla (except at LFP), the rest of the industry seems to go towards prismatic cells.

  2. If you are in series speaking less and less against a BEV. Whether 5 or 10 minutes now does not matter. That would be interesting if it is for small battery packs. Then you do not have to pack monstrous batteries in cars. 50KWH should be rich for the mass loose. With a 350 kW charger you get the then really in 10 minutes full. For 100kWh you would need at least 600kW, if not anymore.

  3. Is also a question of the price. LFP batteries are currently the cheapest, safer and more durable than lithium ion cells. That’s why I prefer the LFP technology. ByD is a leader and offers the better technology.

At Storedot we will see how the price per kW / h is. Also the recycling and the materials used would be interesting to learn.

  4. How long does a transmission from the patent take into a Chinese large production? 1 or 2 months.
