A car is not much more than a pile of sheet metal and plastic. Even so, nicknames are popular – especially with women.

E.t is – and will probably remain for a while – the German’s favorite child: the car. And that has a name for many owners. 40 percent of women and almost a quarter of men (24 percent) give their vehicle one. This is the result of a current survey by the online exchange AutoScout24.de among around 1000 users.

Above all, belittling is a popular choice. Almost every third named car in Germany has a nickname like "Baby", "Schnucki" or "Kleiner". But the personalized version is also popular. For example, vehicles are addressed with “Emma” or “Susi”, but also with “Hugo” or “Helmut”.

Incidentally, it is sometimes less loving. After all, eight percent of those cars have to endure titles like “junk truck” or “ugly duckling”.
