Tesla: Elon Musk no longer wants a sales panic at the end of the quarter-elon

At Tesla, the sell-off at the end of each quarter was part of folklore, so to speak. In late March, late June, late September and late December, Elon Musk challenged often tells his men to give everything again and to deliver as many cars as possible. The reason was obviously to look good in front of the stockbrokers. But that should now be the end of it.

Elon Musk wrote an email to his employees on November 26th, asking them to pay more attention to costs in the future. Because if all the levers are set in motion at the end of the quarter to deliver more cars over and over, the employees have to work overtime, temporary employment agencies have to be paid and trucks are chartered out of turn – and all of this naturally leads to additional costs.

Elon Musk then believes that the wave of sales at the end of the quarter does not even lead to more sales, because sales in between are falling significantly again and again. Tesla has seen for half a year has not sold any more cars so far, but has to pay the increased distribution costs. The end of the letter is interesting, where Musk alludes to the share price: "Act as efficiently as possible, as if we were not being traded on the Boser and as if the term end of quarter did not exist."

However, Elon Musk’s justification for his move is not really convincing. Because if the sales figures are not higher on average than without the wave of sales, then the stockbrokers would notice that at the end of the quarter. Because the analysts are looking at the deliveries for the entire quarter, not at the increase at the end.

Musk’s request may instead have something to do with the high costs caused by the current logistics problems: If there is a lack of truck drivers in the USA, as can be read, then this will probably lead to higher transport costs, especially if at the end of the quarter an additional truck is to be driven.
