It is still unclear whether there will be a recall in Germany

Tesla has recalled around 475,000 cars. Affected are Model 3 and Model S, which were shipped in the United States, according to Bloomberg.

The majority of the recalled cars, namely 356,000 units, are Model 3. On all vehicles built between 2017 and 2020, cables can be damaged when opening and closing the trunk. Then the reversing camera can no longer display an image. In addition, the front hood of the Model S from 2014 onwards can open unexpectedly. A faulty locking mechanism is to blame here.

The automaker is not aware of any accidents that stem from the two problems, Tesla said. The defects should be repaired at no cost to the customer.

Apparently due to the same problems, Tesla has to recall around 200,000 vehicles in China. This affects around 35,000 imported Model 3s and around 20,000 imported Model Ss, but above all around 144,000 Model 3s produced in China, as reported by Reuters. In a report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung there was only talk of 55,000 vehicles. The vehicles produced in China were apparently not taken into account there.

Since the factory in Grunheide has not yet gone into operation, all vehicles sold in Germany come either from the USA or from China. It can therefore be assumed that German vehicles are also affected. But the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) responsible for recalls has not yet commented.

Even so, the recall includes a total of over half a million cars. That is more than the company shipped worldwide in 2020. Around 900,000 cars are expected to be delivered in 2021.

In the first three quarters of 2021 a total of around 627,000 vehicles were delivered. According to a Bloomberg poll of a dozen analysts it could be another 265,000 cars in the last quarter of 2021 – that would be another quarterly record. Together that would be 892,000 vehicles.

According to other forecasts, there could also be more cars, with which Elon Musk could break the 900,000 mark. Tesla expert Troy Teslike believes in 289,000 pieces, with which almost 917,000 pieces could be achieved. Tesla reportedly wants to comment on the numbers on Sunday (January 2).
