There also seem to be problems with the delivery of the new Model S.
In late January, Tesla announced new versions of the Model X and Model S. on. In addition to a minor facelift and a control horn in the cockpit, the cars are mainly getting new drives, including the strong plaid versions with spectacularly short sprint times (the Model S should be less than 2.1 seconds possible) and gigantic ranges (with the Model S Plaid + it should be 837 km according to WLTP). But there seem to be problems with the delivery.
If you look now in the German configurator, both models say: "Estimated delivery: Q1 2022", for the Model S Plaid + even only "Estimated delivery: 2022". This means that the delivery time is almost a year. In the US configurator you can read about shorter delivery times. For the Model S, dates from August to October 2021 are mentioned, the Plaid +, similar to ours, should not start until mid-2022. The Model X says "Est. Delivery: January-February" – if Tesla is not completely behind the moon, then that refers to 2022.
Originally, Tesla wanted to deliver the Model X from April 2021, the Model S from March 2021, according to InsideEVs USA in February. In any case, Tesla has apparently postponed delivery tremendously.
Even those who ordered the models early will be put off until later. Teslarati now reports that buyers of the Model X Refresh are now promised a delivery date in October, which means a postponement of several months. Teslarati explains the postponement with possible "final changes" to the vehicles, and refers to a corresponding tweet from Elon Musk:
Another possible reason could be the global shortage of chips. The real cause is not known. In any case, according to its most recent quarterly report, Tesla has in the first quarter of 2021 not a single Model S or Model X built, as the table below shows. Nevertheless, Tesla says that the production ramp-up has started:
"The new Model S and Model X have also been exceptionally well received, with the new equipment installed and tested in Q1 and we are in the early stages of ramping production."
Production Deliveries Subject to operating lease accounting Model S / X – 2.020 6% Model 3 / Y 180.338 182.780 7% Total 180.338 184,800 7% (Tesla‘s report for the first quarter of 2021)
