Production should actually start in early 2021

Tesla Model Y: Start of production postponed to mid-2021-production

So far, the Tesla configurator for Model Y has always said that production will start at the beginning of 2021. Now you can read there: "Production is expected to start in mid-2021". Apparently the date has been postponed.

The mid-range crossover has been in production in the USA since the beginning of 2020.

And according to the Tesla configurator, the car is also available in America, with delivery times between two and nine weeks. Three variants are offered in the USA: Standard Range RWD, Long Range AWD and Performance AWD. A fourth variant called Long Range RWD was planned, but was apparently recently canceled, as reported by InsideEVs USA.

We no longer offer a rear-wheel drive (RWD) version, not even the standard range RWD version that is available in the technically related Model 3. Although this was apparently planned (and still listed on Wikipedia is).

WLTP range 0-100 km / h Vmax Price (before promotion,
with processing fee)
Maximum range 505 km 5.1 sec. 217 km / h 59,600 euros
performance 480 km 3.7 sec. 241 km / h 66,600 euros

Compared to our last overview from January 12th the price for the performance version rose by around 1,000 euros, the base price, on the other hand, remains unchanged. It remains unclear when the performance version will be available, as there is no indication of the start of production. Both engines should, however, also remain unchanged as a seven-seater give. The option for 3,100 euros is still grayed out, but a start in 2021 is promised.

The Model Y is currently being built in Fremont (USA) and since the end of 2020 also in the Gigafactory in Shanghai. The German factory in Grunheide near Berlin is also due to start production in the summer. This fits in with the new announcement of the start of production, which can also be found in the configurators of other European countries.

The old statement "Production start is planned for the beginning of 2021" could only be explained for us by the assumption that the cars are to be imported from the USA or China. As before, you have to rely on the configurator for information on Tesla's range of models, as there is neither a press page nor press releases – you can only read the business figures.
