Here we have a very interesting crash test of two modern electric SUVs that are available in China – the Tesla Model Y. and the Volkswagen ID.6 Crozz. Actually, we would use the Model Y against the ID.4 compete, but let's see how it fares against the heavier ID.6 (ID.4 and ID.6 are both MEB-based, the ID.6 is significantly longer).

The said ID.6 is only available on the Chinese market. The family SUV with seven seats, like the Model Y, is built in China.

In the test carried out in China, the two vehicles collided head-on with an offset of 50 percent at a speed of 64 km / h each, which corresponds to an impact on a solid, deformable barrier at 128 km / h.

The results are not bad, as the passenger compartments of both vehicles appear to be largely intact and there was no fire, although there are many traces where the dummies hit airbags, seats, doors or other elements.

The doors on the driver's side of Model Y would not open after the impact, while all four doors on the ID.6 would open after the impact.

Overall, the damage level appears to be similar – it would be difficult for us to say that one of the vehicles in this particular test is significantly better than the other, especially since the language barrier prevents us from fully understanding the results.

There might be a slight advantage to the ID.6 over the Model Y, but considering that the Model Y is likely significantly lighter, it actually did pretty well. Both cars should be considered very safe.

Here's a quick look at the disassembled cars after the crash test, showing the ID.6's largely pristine battery pack and a fairly crumpled Model Y battery case:
