Tesla wants to massively reduce water consumption of Giga Berlin-reduce

The water consumption of Teslas German Gigafactory in Grunheide near Berlin is one of the controversial topics of the project. Environmental associations and residents fear that the water could be scarce in the region as soon as Tesla starts with the production of electric cars and the associated batteries. This legitimate fears could now deprive Tesla.

According to the daily mirror, the GIGA Berlin should consume significantly less water than originally planned. At the beginning of 2019, the speech of the fact that Tesla alone for auto production with an annual consumption of 3.3 million cubic meters calculated, the electric car Primus now corrected its calculation to only 1.42 million cubic meters, such as the updated Tesla application in the current main approval procedure for the first expansion stage. That would be less than half, and for auto production plus the in the meantime added production of electric car batteries.

The savings have become possible by improving various production technologies, both on vehicle and battery side. The batteries for example want to produce Tesla in Greenheide in a novel “dry process” and integrate partly directly into the body. So far, battery factories were known for their enormous water consumption. This could change now.

Tesla has great in Gruheide: Half a million electric cars per year should run there from the band and serve the European market, and the battery factory based on the site should be the world’s largest of its species. For comparison: Tesla had just under more than 500 in his own in his so far three factories in 2020.000 vehicles produced.

Water consumption for the GIGA Berlin in the amount of 1.42 million cubic meters had already secured himself in 2020 and concluded appropriate contracts with the local water supplier Strausberg Erkner (WSE). At the end of 2021, Tesla wants to start with e-auto production in Grunheiden, first rolls the compact SUV Model Y from the band

  1. Well that’s going to be exciting now

VLT has also recognized Tesla that the shit in D is so wanted. Specify good data and if it gets worse … yes my … happens

would be a pity if it comes … we hope the best

    It remains exciting

  2. No idea what Tesla pays exactly for the cubic meter of water and wastewater. But in the amount, a separate water treatment plant should already pay off. For many applications you will not need drinking water. But all at once does not work.

  3. Ecomento.de, questions about water consumption, already in 2019:
Maximilian Fichtner, director at the Helmholtz Institute for Electrochemical Energy Storage in Ulm, explained in conversation with the Mirror, that for the lithium of a battery with a capacity of 64 kilowatt hours (kWh) 3840 liters of water are evaporated. This corresponds to water consumption in the production of 250 grams of beef, 10 avocados, 30 cups of coffee or half a jeans.

    What is talk about here?

For water-intensive production processes, there will certainly be much more consumption data than just the prongeing position of Tesla and battery production.

The whole region far around Stuttgart is water deficiency area, which has not held production operations ever from making anything to produce anything.
The water must be elaborately made over hundreds of kilometers, so that there is something growing and thrives.

Beef, avocados, coffee and cotton products are much more harmful than batteries.

  4. When spoken of water consumption, most people always think that the water would then be gone. But it’s ultimately just a flow. The water is “consumed”, must ultimately only be cleaned and then is available again. Of course, more water consumption needs to be cleaned, but actually it would be better to speak of “increased water purification needs” and “additional investment needs in cleaning systems” than “water consumption”.

  5. The opponents of the factory will find something new to be on mind. Environmental protection is important, no question but this location is part of the most modern, which will be found in Germany. There will be more companies and also take place. At the end, important and high-quality industrial workplaces also arise. As SchrOder said once: we can not live that we cut the hair to each other.

  6. Already strangely the Tesla with pre-building permits could raise the backs to this day, without being able to seriously demonstrate how the product lines produce there. Tesla wants to be accepted in public as “sustainable”, then Tesla must also prove this. Generally, we should not let a “light-shaped”, whoever it is. Even a Elon Mask is not a Messiah !
And secondly, the receipts have to have the question as to whether it is still contemporary today to allow the procedure in nature and the environment for a multinational group with previous permits. Unfortunately, I can only see this at a municipal level too often.
