E-trekking bikes and e-mountain bikes are the most popular e-bike categories. But what did they differ at all? Our expert Michael Faib in the video explains this to you. You can find even more e-bike videos on the YouTube channel from Site E-Bike (display).
If you deal with the purchase of a new e-bike, the question is at the very beginning: Which bike category is the right one for me and my area of application? In many things, the decision is made between the classic e-trekking bike and a mountain bike. They differ in 5 essential points: the tires, the chassis, the equipment, the seating position and the contact points. You can find out in detail what you have to pay attention to and which variants are most suitable for you in our video. For urgent, these are the most important differences in short form:
- tires: While the E-MTB such as the flyer UProC6 (display) large tires are used with a deep profile to have enough grip even on uneven distances, e-trekking bikes use narrow tires with a flat profile-perfect for roads and bike paths.
- landing gear: If you want to be on the road, you need suspension that compensate for bumps on the ground. E-MTBs have a spring (hardtails) at least at the front of the fork, but many models also use a second damping below the saddle. E-trekking bikes indulge in only one suspension fork at the front, but some models do without a damping.
- Full equipment: If you buy an e-trekking bike, you can take part in road traffic immediately, because lamps, stands and co. are almost always delivered. Mountain bikes, on the other hand, come to the customer naked because this equipment is not required in the area. If you still want to drive in road traffic, you have to retrofit.
- Seating position: E-trekking bikes should not burden your back even on long distances. Accordingly, the cyclist sits upright. On e-mountain bikes you sit in a forward-leaning, sportier attitude.
-
Contact points: The contact points are the places where the driver touches his bike – i.e. handles, saddle and pedals. There are also differences here. For example, many trekking handles come with a circulation for the palm, so as not to strain the hands so much even after a long time.
