A spirit of optimism at Maserati: the Italians are modernizing their factories

Trident becomes a plug

Maserati is getting into e-mobility – and wants to continue producing in Italy.

Maserati announces that the development, design and construction of its electrified vehicles will take place 100% in Italy. Production of the Ghibli Hybrid will start this year. GranTurismo and GranCabrio, both of which will be converted to pure electric drive, will follow in 2021, as will a planned new SUV from the brand, the name of which has not yet been revealed.

The successors to the GranTurismo and GranCabrio models, which have sold a total of over 40,000 units, will continue to be produced at the Maserati plant in Mirafiori. According to Maserati, 800 million euros have been invested here in order to meet the necessary capacities. The same sum was put into a new production line in Cassino, where construction of the still unnamed SUV is scheduled to start in the first quarter of this year.

Remodeling at the headquarters

The brand’s headquarters in Modena will also be modernized. Maserati’s new sports car, which will also be available in an electric version, is to roll off the assembly line here in the future. In addition, the Italians are also renovating their “Innovation Lab” located there, which includes research, development and design. New technologies should enable “virtual simulations from the customer’s point of view”. Maserati wants to take the human factor into account right from the start.

How exactly Maserati’s vision of tomorrow’s mobility will look like is not yet foreseeable. However, one thing is clear: there is a spirit of optimism in Modena.
