Tschus, GTI: The last power golf with petrol engine in the practical test

VW will no longer offer a golf with an internal combustion engine in Europe after the current model generation. This also expires the legendary GTI. Too bad? We give the Boller car from Wolfsburg the spores again.
The Golf GTI 45 is a normal GTI. However, with 221 kW / 300 PS / 400 Nm it has significantly more pepper and the 45 version with its insignia is a visually visible exclamation mark in terms of dynamics in the compact class. Who would have thought in the summer of 1976 that the sportiest of all golves would put such a career down? From the 5000 copies of the UR-GTI, which were previously planned at the beginning, were increasingly and more. To date, the Golf GTI has sold more than 2.3 million times. No other car can keep up in the segment.
GTI – The golf legend now with 300 hp
Which is why the VW Golf GTI is so popular after a few days of continuous use in the 4.30 meter long club sport 45 more impressive than ever. Because with all sportiness, excellent driving performance and lots of power, the exclusive 45 GTI is primarily one thing: a golf with lots of strengths and too few weaknesses. Of course, it can be argued excellently about whether the current and thus eighth generation of the Golf is not exactly too lovely and nice from the front. The predecessor was sharper, more pithy and probably also fancier. And of course the interior is also more modern but not as top as before in terms of operation. Especially because the operation of navigation and entertainment always takes a break again and again. This should not happen with a new compact model with undisguised premium entitlement.

Operation and navigation system are worse than the predecessor
But the rest is great and big. Even if the VW Golf GTI Clubsport 45 should primarily attract die-hard Volkswagen and GTI fans, because the 40 kW / 55 hp additional performance is not required for a more than dynamic progress. The standard GTI is simply too good, too fast and too ambitious. The feedback on the throttle acceptance is a force, the precision of the steering impressively and if that would not be the noticeable drive forces that only the all -wheel drive golf R can cover, the performance would be perfectly perfect on the winding mountain roads in South Tyrol and Trentino. Gladly switched manually and the re -sharpened GTI with the switching pedals on the handlebar gave the spores a little more – if the tires are warm, there is almost no stopping anymore.

What is always enthusiastic about in a Golf GTI is the sportiness that is hardly at the expense of everyday use. The GTI can always always be just under 1.5 tons of heavy club sport 45, but it is also more reluctant with lots of long -distance qualities. A nightly motorway passage from Munich to Bolzano and further towards Madonna di Campiglio, the energetic Wolfsburger simply pushes away and, despite Sportpneus. In contrast to the standard GTI, club sport is not sealed off at 250 km/h and runs over speed 270. If desired, it goes from the stand in less than six seconds to speed. The consumption in the practical test. Almost 9.5 liters great.

With the VW Golf GTI Clubsport 45, the Wolfsburgers write another chapter of the extraordinary GTI versions. The first Golf GTI Clubsport only came to 40 in 2016. Birthday of the cult athlete on the market. It developed 195 kW / 265 hp and in a boost function for brief 213 kW / 290 PS. In the same year, the Golf GTI Clubsport S again followed up with a permanent maximum output of 228 kW / 310 hp.

9000 euros surcharge for the club sports package
Whether it is worth it to be at least 47.Treat 245 euros in Golf GTI Clubsport 45, the around 9000 euros more costs the standard GTI with seven-speed double coupling? Everyone should know that themselves, because the gain that brings the 45 package is manageable in everyday operation and the 55 horses can be felt more at best with a very sporty driving style. There is the all -wheel drive golf r for 49.400 euros probably the better choice, because it brings the performance even better than the front axle lock of the GTI Clubsport. With its enlarged air inlets, the large roof edge spoiler and the Sonor, which is rabbing, is more like a gti with that a certain of the collector, the large roof edge spoiler and the Sonor Babeling Sports Sagan.

Motor must be
Whether petrol or diesel, an engine should belong to every vehicle. In this case a A … Whether petrol or diesel, an engine should belong to every vehicle. In this case a GTI with one "Climate engine" To equip something from Slapstick. A vehicle lives from the customer and its emotions towards the vehicle, there are of course drivers who do not care what is installed as a motor, it is for the means of transportation from A to B. To be subordinated to the climate everything, but also really everything, is negligent, what do the manufacturers believe what happens if they continue to build petrol/diesel? In the location of Germany, the petrol/diesel production is tremendously taxed? I can’t explain otherwise with their rethinking. When this screw is turned over, the awakening comes because of sustainable production of such automobiles "down the stream"…
Secret project VW ?
How does it work ? How could they bring out such a car without a mega battery package ? The boss was asked and his consent was obtained ? They are on the 100% battery path, or ???? Or is that the turn of the turn ?
Oh if I only only a few euros
would have been unnecessary, then I would like to put a collection of such a cream piece in a barn … a US V8 (Mustang, Corvette, Challenger O.a.) an AMG V8, an R6 from BMW, a 5-cylinder from Audi, a 10 cylinder (BMW, Lamborghini or Viper) and a 12 cylinder from Ferrari or Aston Martin, a 6-cylinder boxer (air-cooled) from the 911, plus Such 4 cylinders like the GTI or a 4-cylinder from Alfa … oh I would think of a few more. Unfortunately, I lack the necessary change for such dreams and will therefore have to drive through rush hour traffic in 10-15 years with such a soulless vehicle, with a large vacuum cleaner engine and a battery weighing at least 500kg. Then with local 0 emissions but also with 0 emotions
I don’t know where that should end
With all the electric motors etc. but I know one in 150 years then someone will be a petrol engine or diesel engine "invent" And everyone will say ohhh great wow great. The whole e-stuff always reminds me of the invention of the quartz zip etc. or the CD What Angelb also. The future should be.. Nothing of them can keep up with a good mechanical watch from Breitling Glashutte etc or a record that still exists today..Quality will somehow prevail and every bet in 50 or 60 years is a combustion engine V8 from Porsche BMW or a Golf GTI Clubsport more worth more than any normal electro-tesla Honda Audi or always
I agree
And how many people run around with a Breitling in everyday life? Exactly …, there will be collectors and burners will then be significantly more expensive than BEV, since no longer produced. If then it is high -priced small series vehicles ala 911er o.a. act, a 0815 golf nobody will mourning..
I
I’m curious when the change will come back to the burner if the climate does not change..
The main thing is electrical … hopefully they stay
Corporations do not sit on their giant batteries. This day it was heard from the next Tesla, which was completely burned down and could not be deleted by the fire brigade. 2 extinguishers needed an hour to suffocate the flames, you have to let something like that melt on your tongue! But our politicians have prepared the way for this. For fear of losing voice among the first voters, bending and breaking and with destroying Abermilliarden of taxpayers’ money will be forced to the E-car. Our great -grandchildren will still pay for this! Climate protection but please with a sense of proportion! Efuel is the bid of the hour. They should drive their development and make them more efficient, then you could have saved all this nonsense with the battery cars!
45-year model
You have to be a die-hard GTI fan to be about. 50.To pay 000 euros for more boost pressure from a four-cylinder golf with a driven front axle.
Mine wouldn’t be either.
However, die-hard Tesla fan must also be if you pay much more for such a maximum average cobbled AMI electric car.
Yes but what about the climate?
How can an automotive group such as the serious, honest and environmentally conscious e-mobile makers from Wolfsburg build a vehicle that contains such antinaches and how can an author who knows exactly that every German combustion engine is a coffin nail for the world climate, also praise this vehicle? Way with the cart and up on the bike!
When I drive a GTI
I am very little interested in the world climate. I like to treat myself to this coffin nail and whistle on a bike.
