New engine for the Toyota Yaris
A new 1.5-liter petrol engine will replace the previous 1.33 VVT-i in the Toyota Yaris

In the past few years, car manufacturers have mostly relied on reducing the cubic capacity of new engines. In the Toyota Yaris, however, a new economy gasoline engine with more displacement is used.
For the larger-capacity four-cylinder, Toyota specifies 82 kW / 111 PS and 136 Newton meters of torque in the Yaris. Compared to the 72 kW / 98 PS and 118 Nm strong 1.33 liter model, this should reduce the sprint time by 0.8 to 11 seconds. Intermediate sprints are also faster: in future, the Yaris will be able to accelerate from 80 to 120 km / h in 17.6 instead of 18.8 seconds.
At the same time, the engine should burn more cleanly and work more efficiently. For the Euro 6C homologated engine, Toyota promises to cut fuel consumption by a good 12 percent. This would reduce the consumption of the Yaris from 4.9 to probably 4.4 liters. Responsible for the increase in efficiency are, among other things, an increase in compression to 13.5: 1 and a new valve control that allows the engine to switch between Otto and Atkinson cycles. In this way, the petrol engine can spontaneously switch to the optimal cycle for the respective driving situation. At high speed on the autobahn, a new water cooling system on the exhaust pipe should also reduce exhaust gas temperatures and thus consumption.
