Urban e-mobility: BMW Motorrad shows Concept CE 02-manufacturer envisions future 125cc class

BMW does not stop and continues to work on expanding the range of electromobility … also in the two-wheeler segment. For example, the BMW CE 04 electric scooter is already at the start. The novelty that the manufacturer is now at the IAA Mobility 2021 wants to show in Munich, but it is one size smaller and still a study.

It is the BMW Motorrad Concept CE 02, a small e-moped for the 125cc segment and urban use.

As defined by BMW Motorrad, the brand does not classify the concept as either a scooter or a traditional motorcycle, but rather a vehicle that mixes elements from both styles to better serve the needs of those who need to get around the city. We kind of always have to think about the Honda Monkey. they also?

Thanks to its compact dimensions and proportions, the model is also intended to appeal to a new target group: "People aged 16 and over who have not ridden a motorcycle before and are still open to new experiences, smart technology and, above all, mobility with fun."

The BMW CE 02 is presented as an urban lightweight with a seat height limited to 730 mm and a weight of 120 kilograms. The specified power is 11 kW, which, according to the brand, is sufficient to achieve a top speed of 90 km / h and a range of 90 km with one charge in the WTMC cycle. However, the data on the battery capacity were not disclosed. We calculate with a size between 5 and 8 kWh.

The BMW CE 02 electric motorcycle is visually striking with its 15-inch wheels and reduced frame dimensions. At the front, the flat headlight with a black socket is divided into four LED units, while two reflective reflective lenses take over the light and signal functions at the rear. The dashboard is a color screen with integrated navigation functions.

Alexander Buckan, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad, commented on the development of the study:

"We wanted to develop an easily accessible two-wheeler for everyone who wants to be mobile and independent. The Concept CE 02 is the reliable companion in everyday life. You love it because it is always there and just works – even if you are not so careful with it And through stickers, tapes or other forms of individualization, everyone should see that it belongs to them. It embodies youthful freedom and light-heartedness, almost like a skateboard on two wheels. "

At first glance, it seems like a very interesting option for the urban two-wheeler segment. However, BMW Motorrad has not yet spoken openly about developing a series model or even series production.

Given the rapidly growing demand for electric motorcycles and scooters, such an announcement should be made soon. Will the attached skateboard make it into series production? We think this is unlikely.
