Angular, angular, Cadillac: The most American of all American brands has rearranged itself – with hybrids and smaller off-road vehicles.
E.t is hard enough to find fans of the American Way of Drive in Germany – if the importer then has to file for bankruptcy, you are suddenly completely out of the window. This fate threatened Cadillac, the most American of all American brands. But now the luxury department of General Motors is building its own sales network again. Nearly a dozen dealers are due to secure supplies again soon, and half of them have already signed. At the end of October a new range of models will start again, promises European boss Wolfgang Schubert.
The Americans are mainly relying on the brand new SRX off-road vehicle, the second edition of which has become a good deal smaller and more economical. Still marked with a lot of corners and edges, the five-seater, which has shrunk to 4.83 meters, is the cross-over for asphalt and rubble, which in America is only equipped with all-wheel drive for an extra charge. With us, on the other hand, it is basically a 4×4 and only comes into the country with the more powerful engine: Then it is powered by a V6 direct injection engine with a displacement of three liters and 268 hp. The car costs 52,950 euros, not significantly less than a comparable motorized BMW X5 or Mercedes ML. The complete equipment should make the difference.
The second off-roader besides the SRX will continue to be the huge Cadillac Escalade. The feudal all-wheel drive costs at least 75,990 euros and confirms all prejudices with more than 5.20 meters in length, almost three tons in weight, eight cylinders, 6.2 liters displacement, 409 hp and almost 15 liters consumption. But here, too, the rethinking has already started: Cadillac also sells the Escalade as a hybrid for 6500 euros more: Its V8 then only has six liters of displacement and 337 hp, but consumption drops to 11.1 liters.
The second mainstay of the Americans is the CTS series. Positioned against the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series, the car with the emphatically angular design is available for prices from 47,490 euros as a sedan, for 2,500 euros more as a station wagon and now even as a coupe (from 54,136 euros). With rear-wheel drive as standard, and with all-wheel drive on request, mainly six-cylinders work under the bonnet. A 3.0-liter with 276 hp or a 3.6-liter that brings it to 311 hp. However, the CTS-V is particularly exciting: Driven by the supercharged V8 engine from the Corvette, it has 564 hp, becomes the most powerful production Cadillac of all time and is a veritable sports car even for many Europeans. It is not for nothing that it even holds the lap record in its category on the Nordschleife of the Nurburgring and even drives away the M and AMG models at up to 308 km / h.
