The Volt is not a space miracle, but there is also enough space on the two individual seats in the rear and the storage space corresponds to that of an average compact car.

After 65 kilometers, when the batteries are empty, the volt does not have to be plugged into the socket straight away. Instead, a small petrol engine starts automatically and drives a generator. Therewith the car should then cover another 400 kilometers.

The Chevrolet Volt is now being launched in seven states of the USA. The electric car will start in Germany in 2011.

ZThe Chevrolet Volt goes on sale in the USA with immediate effect at a price of $ 41,000. Since the purchase is also offset against income tax with a maximum of $ 7,500, the net price, depending on your personal tax situation, is in the best case 33,500 dollars (about 25,785 euros).

The electric car with extended range (range extender) will be offered by selected Chevrolet dealers initially in the states of California, New York, Michigan, Connecticut, Texas, New Jersey and Washington D.C. – However, the production numbers are still very small at first. Next year the Volt will also be coming to Europe and will also be launched in China. Gradually, sales in all Chevrolet markets are planned.

The Volt has a range of around 60 kilometers in pure electric mode. When the electricity stored in the 16 kWh lithium-ion battery is running out, a small petrol engine generator produces energy and refills the batteries. As a so-called electric vehicle with an extended range, the Volt has a range of around 500 kilometers.

In order to relieve the customer of possible concerns about the quality and durability of the batteries, Chevrolet grants a guarantee of eight years or 160,000 kilometers on the lithium-ion package. The GM subsidiary is delivering its first electric vehicle with a 120-volt charging cable that can be used to charge the vehicle at any household socket in the USA. The first 4400 buyers also receive a 240-volt charging station including installation for home free of charge. This is part of a program by the US Department of Energy that provides for the installation of around 15,000 stations with 240-volt technology.

In Germany, the Volt should come onto the market in the course of next year, as will its sister model, the Opel Ampera. There is still no information about a possible price. However, it can be assumed that the Volt will be offered more expensively in this country than in the USA, where cars are usually much cheaper than in Germany.
