Not everything is perfect … but very much, very good

Video test: Tesla Model 3 Performance-performance

Long-established car enthusiast goes to the Tesla Model 3 doesn’t exactly open its heart. This is not just because the engine has very few cylinders. It’s also because of the image. People who have never been interested in cars get their eyes shining at the name Tesla.

The bad blood between combustion and electro-Fans have something from Apple against Microsoft! The Model 3 is practically the newest automobile I-Phone. But what is the hype about it? Acceleration: 3.3 seconds to 100! Price: Less than 60,000 euros. All other cars are nothing more than Nokias in motion?

Tesla is keeping a low profile on some technical data. For example: battery capacity. Tesla was unable or unwilling to provide any information on request. The capacity of the Model 3 battery is likely to be between 70 and 90 kilowatt hours. According to the WLTP, the range is 560 kilometers. During our test, the maximum range was just over 500 kilometers.

A good value, because the outside temperatures were usually between zero and four degrees. The Model 3 Performance should be around 513 hp. In this case, too, we did not receive any official confirmation from Tesla. The power is delivered to the wheels via two electric motors. An AC induction motor with liquid cooling and frequency converter works on the front axle. On the rear axle, Tesla relies on an AC permanent magnet synchronous motor, also with liquid cooling and a frequency converter.

In terms of consumption, the values can vary widely. The official consumption figure is 16.5 kWh per 100 kilometers. This value can be achieved with a light-footed driving style. If you put your foot on the pedal, over 30 kWh are no problem. Consumption shoots up, especially at motorway speeds above 130 km / h. However, this phenomenon can be observed in all e-cars.

Unlike combustion engines, e-cars are particularly economical in stop-and-go urban traffic. The Model 3 Performance is no exception. Incidentally, the maximum charging power we achieved was 126 kW with a battery level of 18 percent and a 350 kW charging station. You can see what else there is to know in the video!
