With Bluemotion technology, VW is tightening its belts on its successful models. Even as "most economical five-seater in the world" the new Polo is touted. He should be satisfied with 3.3 liters. The Golf and Passat are also becoming more frugal and therefore cleaner. That is impressive, even if more is used in practice.
W.hen the two-liter car is still a dream of the future and the dream of many automobile developers, VW is now launching at least three new low-consumption models with a fuel-saving package that require record-breaking low fuel consumption. In addition to the new Bluemotion versions of VW Golf and Passat is even launching a genuine three-liter car with the VW Polo Bluemotion in February of next year.
The small car takes the title with a standard consumption of 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers "Most economical five-seater in the world" on the flags. A 1.2-liter three-cylinder common rail diesel with 75 hp was specially developed for this impressive figure. In addition, an automatic start-stop system, brake energy recovery, aerodynamic precision work and smooth-running tires ensure the exemplary consumption. The most economical Polo and the successor to the three-liter Lupo that failed in the 1990s is available from 16,575 euros.
In the first test drives, the small three-cylinder engine with balancer shaft proved to be powerful enough to properly heat up the small car, which weighs a ton. However, clearly audible diesel noises and noticeable engine vibrations, especially at low engine speeds, had to be accepted.
In addition, if you strictly obey the standard gearshift indicator, the needle on the tachometer may drop to around 1,000 rpm and the accelerator command can only be implemented with great difficulty. Once the hole has been overcome and if you then ignore the instructions for upshifting that were set too early, you will have a lot of fun with the 1.2-liter engine.
In this way, 3.3 liters cannot be achieved, but the test consumption of around 4.4 liters is not to be despised either.
Eco friends who don’t want to wait until next year for the new savings master can switch to the brand’s other two new Bluemotion models. The new Golf Bluemotion and its big brother Passat Bluemotion can be ordered now and will be delivered this year. Both vehicles do not come with a 1.9-liter diesel engine like their predecessors, but with a 1.6-liter common rail diesel engine.
It has an output of 105 hp and consumption figures of 3.8 liters or 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers. In practice, 4.5 liters could be achieved with exertion in normal traffic. The tried and tested saving methods also helped with the Golf and Passat: start-stop, braking force recovery and an improved drag coefficient. The frugal compact is in the price list at 21,650 euros, the middle class at 27,850 euros.
In addition to the three new flagship savers, Volkswagen also offers an optional Bluemotion package for all model series. By and large, it contains the savings measures of the Bluemotion models in a slimmed-down form. But because it costs less, it also saves less. In return, the equipment lines and options are almost freely selectable.
By the beginning of November, 27 models with the Bluemotion label are to be in the range, which are either powered by a TDI or a TSI engine and, in combination with the consumption-reducing innovations such as start-stop, also for Touran, Sharan, Caddy and even Touareg drivers To teach saving.
