Volvo and Polestar are reportedly planning small electric SUVs-reportedly

Volvo and its electrical brand Polestar are planning small electric SUVs below the XC40 and Polestar 2. This emerges from an article by Autocar.

The next electric cars of the partner brands are known to be the successor to the Volvo XC90 and the Polestar 3, both of which will be presented in 2022 and then built in the USA. According to new rumors, the XC90 successor will be called Embla, such an article from CarBuzz. We have known the approximate look of the Polestar 3 for a few days.

The next project is supposedly a small SUV like the Mercedes EQA or DS 3 Crossback E-Tense. However, these two models are far apart in terms of size: the Mercedes measures 4.46 meters, the DS only 4.12 meters. Since the XC40 and C40 are at 4.43 meters, a car about 4.20 meters long would actually fit well.

The Volvo model was originally supposed to be called the XC20 or C20, but now the decision was made to use a name without numbers analogous to the XC90 successor. The car should have a streamlined silhouette.

Zeekr 001: Up to 700 km range and charging with 360 kW

The new model is said to be on Geely’s SEA platform for the first time which debuted in Zeekr 001. The Zeekr 001, which is to be offered worldwide from 2022, has either an 86 or 100 kWh battery, which enables ranges of up to 700 kilometers. In addition, the car should be able to be charged with up to 360 kW.

Polestar’s small SUV is scheduled to start in 2023 and its size will be between Polestar 2 and 3. The Polestar 2 measures 4.60 meters, the Polestar 3, as an equivalent to the XC90 successor, should be around 4.90 meters long. Accordingly, the Polestar 4 should be between 4.60 and 4.90 meters long. Still, Autocar strangely believes that the car, like the 4.43-meter-long C40, is based on the CMA platform. We think that is implausible.

In September, Polestar already had the planned model range for 2024 shown:

The two models on the left are the Polestar 1 and Polestar 2. The cars that are still covered are likely to be the large Polestar 3, Polestar 4 and Polestar 5 (the production version of the Precept) from left to right. We have chosen the middle model (in our opinion the Polestar 4) as the cover picture for this article.
