Same electric drive as the XC40, but flatter rear
The trend towards the coupe SUV continues. Not only Audi wants to bring its Q4 e-tron as a Q4 e-tron Sportback, Volvo is now also introducing a coupe-like version of the XC40 Recharge. But it's not called the XC40 Coupe, but the C40.
Unlike the XC40 Recharge, which is available with an electric drive (as "XC40 Recharge Pure Electric") and as a plug-in hybrid (as "XC40 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid"), the Volvo C40 Recharge only has an electric drive.

Like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge is also based on the CMA platform, but has a less angular rear. At the end of the much flatter rear window there is a small spoiler. The taillights are more filigree and extend into the tailgate. The rear lights, which are only "dashed" in the upper area, are an interesting detail.

There are also small changes to the front. According to its own statement, Volvo is introducing a new face for its electric models that includes headlights with "pixel technology". In our comparison pictures, however, we don't see any major differences; only the bumper with the area around the fog lights seems to be designed differently than on the XC40 Recharge.

Volvo does not yet show any pictures of the cockpit; it probably doesn't look much different than the XC40. Volvo also promises a high seating position for the C40. However, the C40 is the first Volvo model that is completely leather-free.
Like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge also has an infotainment system based on Android Auto. It offers various Google apps and Google services, such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store. The C40 Recharge also receives over-the-air (OTA) updates of the software.
The C40 Recharge is powered by electric motors on the front and rear axles – two times 150 kW, just like the XC40. As with this one, a battery with 75 kWh net is used. It charges to 80 percent in about 40 minutes. The expected WLTP range is around 420 km, which is slightly more than the XC40, which is specified as 400-418 km. With the OTA updates, Volvo wants to get even more out of it over time.
The C40 Recharge should only be available online. A car subscription called "Care by Volvo" is also offered. This includes service, warranty, breakdown assistance as well as insurance and home charging options.
The C40 Recharge will be produced from autumn. It is built together with the XC40 Recharge at the Volvo plant in Ghent (Belgium). The prices have not yet been announced. Presumably they will be a bit higher than the XC40, for which Volvo is asking 62,000 euros.

In the coming years, Volvo plans to bring more electric cars onto the market. By 2025, 50 percent of the global sales volume should consist of purely electrically powered cars, the rest should be "hybrids" (meaning plug-in hybrids). In 2030, Volvo will then only sell all-electric cars.
