The fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge gets increases: With a second drive version and three equipment lines, the Swedish premium manufacturer expands the portfolio of the E-CARS. The new Volvo XC40 Recharge combines a 170 kW (231 hp) strong electric motor for the first time with front drive. In conjunction with a 70 kWh high-voltage battery, ranges of up to 400 kilometers are possible in the combined WLTP cycle. On fast load columns, according to Volvo, the lithium-ion battery can be charged from ten to 80 percent within 32 minutes. The trailer load is 1.5 ton unchanged.
The entry price for the new model lies according to factory information at 45.080 euros – the Volvo share of the environmental premium of 3000 euros and an additional manufacturer bonus of 570 euros is already taken into account. Alternatively, customers can decide for a “Care by Volvo” subscription: With a fixed term for over three years, the monthly rate is 649 euros, in the flexible subscription is due monthly 719 euros due.
“With the introduction of the Volvo XC40 Recharge we expand the attractiveness of our fully electric model series,” says Volvo Technology Board Henrik Green. Thus, the company underlines its commitment to the electrification: From 2030 the complete model range is offered exclusively with electric drive.
For safety, according to Volvo, the ADAS sensor platform (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems): It combines various cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors with advanced software and enables numerous assistance systems such as a emergency brake system with collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist recognition and an active Track assistant.
The entry-level version has an Android infotainment system with access to the DigitalRadio DAB + and various Google Services. Software and system updates are wireless “over the air” – unlimited data volume is included for four years. The own smartphone can be loaded inductively in a Qi charging cradle.
In the higher equipment lines plus and pro, other amenities such as a heat pump, the driver assistance system Pilot Assist, a panoramic glass slide roof and a parking camera with 360 degree all-round view are added. The Care Service Pack is always included for three years. It includes the argue insurance consisting of automotive liability and fully comprehensive service, maintenance and wear.

The additional manufacturer bonus probably may be the VAT to the 3000 €. But with 45.000 € is already better in the market. Overall, I find the strategy at Volvo / Polestar nevertheless somewhat immeasures.
Why front drive? This is somehow completely developed against the electricity. All manufacturers offer from a good reason (traction) either rear drive or four-wheel for their new E vehicles. The front scratches do not get the power on the street. Even with our EGOLF with “only” 136hp and 290nm, the tires turn through when gives full flow at 50km / h. The Kona etc does not look different.
