Voxan introduces a new version of its high-speed Wattman motorcycle. Former motorcycle racer Max Biaggi wants to set new speed records with the electrically powered motorcycle.

The French motorcycle brand Voxan had to file for bankruptcy in 2009, for the second time. In 2010 the naming rights were acquired by Venturi Automobiles; the small company from Monaco is mainly for high-speed records on the Bonneville salt lakes known.

The Wattman was presented back in 2013 – as a 200 hp (147 kW) study, as colleague Annette Napp reported on the motorcycle magazine website at the time. Six years later, the trips took place, namely at the French airfield Châteauroux, about 150 km south of Paris. At that time, the machine with a 270 kW electric motor briefly reached 408 km / h, as Voxan reported at the time.

The new version Wattman II is now set to set new records at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She has lost weight and is now competing in the under 300 kilo category. The lower weight is mainly due to a new battery from the French manufacturer Saft. The pouch cells apparently offer an energy density that is almost 80% higher than that of conventional batteries. In addition, the special cooling should lead to a very compact design:

"The pouch cells used make it possible to increase the batteries' power by nearly 80 times, compared with around 10 times for standard products on the market. They are assembled in modules, enabling cooling to be managed with a recently patented process, resulting in to ultra-compact construction. " (Voxan)

The drive still comes from Mercedes Formula E vehicles. However, compared to the Wattman I, the output has been increased from 270 to 320 kW; the torque is now 1,360 Newton meters.

To improve driving stability and aerodynamics, the wheelbase has been increased from 1.80 to 1.96 meters. In strong cross winds, a cladding can now be attached to reduce wind resistance. Voxan can strive for records in the "partially streamlined" and "naked" categories.

The tires must meet aerodynamic requirements, but also offer enough grip and also prevent the bike from skidding. Special Michelin tires are used, size 120 / 70-17 at the front and 190 / 55-17 at the rear.
