Limousine and station wagon will roll off the assembly line in Emden
Actually, this press release from VW would be pretty unspectacular: The plant in Emden is being converted towards electromobility. More than 1000 employees and external workers work on around 300 construction sites to bring the site into the next phase of the plant renovation.
In addition, the construction work for the new assembly hall, in which the electric vehicles will roll off the assembly line, is progressing.
The site will complete the conversion in the first half of 2022 and start volume production of e-vehicles, initially with the ID.4. Since Emden is located on the North Sea, the routes from shipping to export are short.
The following passage is decisive and, from our point of view, the most interesting: "After the ID.4, which will be manufactured in Emden from 2022, the" Aero B "will also come off the production line as a sedan and station wagon from 2023, a fully electric model the size of the Passat. By then, a total of six additional production halls and logistics buildings will have been built on the 4,300,000 square meter factory site. The location will continue to manufacture the Passat, Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake models in a transitional phase lasting several years. "

Aero B? Well, this is apparently the official name of the production version of the Study ID. Space Vizzion, which VW presented in Los Angeles in 2019. At first glance, the vehicle looks like the electric version of the Passat Variant. However, the study is designed sleeker, and the conventional Passat will also get a new generation from 2023.
But back to the VW Aero B: It should come as a sedan and Shooting Brake. The Arteon should serve as a model for this. It is also noticeable that there is no abbreviation from ID. and number. Apparently, VW is already reaching its limits: 3 to 6 are already taken, an ID.8 has been announced, as well as a smaller ID.1 or ID.2.

VW ID.5: First official data on the coupe-like variant of the ID.4
With the ID. Space Vizzion spoke to VW in 2019 of an 82 kWh gross battery capacity for distances of up to 590 kilometers (WLTP) / 300 miles (EPA). Thanks to a system output (4MOTION) of up to 250 kW, the study accelerated (theoretically) to 100 km / h in 5.4 seconds.
Translated into today's reality: MEB platform, batteries and motors from the ID.4, which as a GTX currently has a maximum of 220 kW or 299 hp. Range? Up to 520 kilometers.
