It could be built in the former Karmann factory in Osnabruck
VW boss Diess is apparently thinking about an electric convertible. It could come from the former Karmann plant in Osnabruck and have a VW or an Audi logo. This is now reported by Automobilwoche, citing an internal conversation in which the workforce was apparently able to ask questions to the CEO.
Volkswagen Osnabruck serves as a competence center for convertibles and small series vehicles in the group. The VW Golf Cabrio and the "one-liter car" XL1 were built there in the past. The plant was created in 2009 from the bankrupt Wilhelm Karmann GmbH. At the moment, the T-Roc Cabrio and the Arteon are mainly being built there, but the plant is considered to be under-utilized.
Osnabruck is very competent as a "niche convertible location", said Diess. "The next option must of course be an electric convertible. There are considerations at Volkswagen, there are considerations at Audi." That could indicate a new edition of the VW ID.3 convertible, Already thought out loud about VW brand boss Ralf Brandstatter in the spring:

Apart from a VW ID.3 convertible, a corresponding Audi model would also be possible. Because the brand with the four rings is still missing a compact model the size of the ID.3 and Cupra Born. A convertible would reduce the risk of internal "cannibalization".
On December 9th, the Group’s supervisory board is to debate investment planning for the next five years. If a convertible based on the modular electrical construction kit (MEB) is approved, Osnabruck should be awarded the contract: Diess said he was "certain that Osnabruck will apply to manufacture our electric convertible."
The current MEB vehicles are mainly manufactured in Zwickau, Saxony (VW ID.3 and ID.4, Cupra Born, Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback), but also in Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic (Skoda Enyaq). Soon Emden (ID.4, Aero B alias "Elektro-Passat"), Hanover (ID.Buzz) and allegedly Brussels (Q4 e-tron) to be added.
