VW builds with FAW electric car Kaili in China-builds

Europe’s largest carmaker VW has for the first time obtained the license to manufacture an electric car in China. As a VW speaker communicated in Beijing, the introduction of a new brand called “Kaili” was now approved by the Chinese authorities.

The Electroauto Kaili will develop the Wolfsburger Group in the future with the joint venture partner FAW (First Automotive Works).

The German-Chinese project also opposes the government in Beijing. This desires that foreign manufacturers develop local brands with their partners in China. “With the certification of the, Kaili ‘electric car through FAW-VW, the Volkswagen Group is a serious obligation to strive with its joint ventures for local innovation,” said VW-China spokesman Andreas Hoffbauer.

So far, the German automotive builders have almost survived the market for electric cars, even if significant efforts are made here, to change this in the short term. The first Kaili should become a middle-class car by industry information. In the future, Volkswagen plans to build an electric car in Shanghai with his other joint venture in Shanghai. The production should be included after earlier information until the end of 2013 or early 2014.

  1. Fortunately, VW can still get the connection to the “green” wave in the vehicle industry. At least this is a German manufacturer who decides to do so. I think that’s a bolder and important step.
