Production in Anting at SAIC-VW, market launch in the fourth quarter

VW ID.3 will soon also be built and sold in China-sold

Volkswagen will also be selling the ID.3 in China in the future. From the fourth quarter of 2021 (i.e. from October at the earliest), the compact electric car will also be offered on the world’s largest electric car market. The ID.3 will make its Chinese debut at the Chengdu auto show.

ID.4 and ID.6 are already on the market in China, the ID.3 is the brand’s third all-electric model.

"After the ID.43 and the ID.6, we are already introducing the third fully electric model series in China with the ID.3 within just six months. Strive for vehicles. " (VW brand boss Ralf Brandstatter).

After the exhibition in Chengdu, Chinese customers can reserve an ID.3 using an early booking system. The ID.3 is produced together with the ID.4 X and ID.6 X in Anting (near Shanghai), where VW exclusively builds MEB vehicles in a new plant. The seat of the joint venture between VW and SAIC is also in Anting. More electric cars, especially the ID.6 Crozz, VW is building in a plant in Foshan, southern China, where a joint venture plant with FAW is located. A third plant is said to be in Anhui that will work from 2023.

Sales of the ID.4 and ID.6 in China are apparently going well. Family deliveries doubled in the past three months from 1,500 units in May to over 3,000 in June, and by July they were already around 5,800. By the end of the year – if the semiconductor supply works – 80,000 to 100,000 vehicles of the ID family will be delivered in China.

VW China boss Stephan Wollenstein says: "With the ID.4 and the ID.6, we have successfully launched two strong model series on the market in the past few months. The feedback from our customers is promising, the delivery figures meet our expectations ID.3 we are now creating an offer in the important compact segment for our customers and, together with the other ID. Models, cover a large part of the market. "

According to its brand strategy Accelerate, Volkswagen wants to generate at least 70 percent of sales in Europe with all-electric cars by 2030. In North America and China, the proportion of electric cars should be at least 50 percent.

Worldwide, Volkswagen was able to deliver around 93,000 all-electric vehicles worldwide in the first half of the year despite the difficult supply situation with semiconductors, which corresponds to an increase of 182 percent compared to the previous year. There were also around 66,000 plug-in hybrids (+175 percent). In the first half of the year, the VW Group was in global sales of e-cars and PHEVs in second place (behind Tesla). If you only count electric cars, the Wolfsburg-based company was in fourth place, because then GM with its Chinese brands Wuling and Baoyun is in between.
