Volkswagen has his ID family with the compact ID.3 Started as the future version of the electrical Golf. But shortly afterwards comes with the ID.4 As an electric SUV, the significantly more important vehicle worldwide. We are the VW ID.4 already driven.
Whether the Volkswagen managers grieve with the ID.3 Unfortunately, they cannot be elicited into the new, colorful electricity tent. However, the joy is unmistakably great that with the ID.4 The first SUV is faster than quickly followed up. He should also come to the customer this year. Visually, the electric crossover is more pleasing and significantly larger than the ID.3. He just looks better from the front, whereby he has a more valuable and chic effect in the interior than the little brother, has initiated his new electrical age with the Volkswagen.
With the ID4 VW wants to build a world car
The VW ID.3 is not a world car, but should slowly start up the new electrical production in Zwickau with a focus, the workers get used to the new vehicle family and become an affordable compact class model of the Wolfsburg. He also drove the new Golf into the parade because he competes in the same league almost simultaneously. However, the demand for SUVs worldwide is significantly larger than after every compact car that is particularly enjoyable in central Europe. "The VW ID.4 is a world car, ”explains Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstatter,“ he will not only come onto the market in the USA and China, but will also be manufactured locally there."

Skoda brings a sister model
Corona was the premiere of the VW ID.4 postponed several times this year. In itself, they wanted to ventilate the cloth from the electrical family model at the beginning of the year. But the first appointment was canceled as well as the later revelations in the USA and so the ID was.4 now even cut out by a family member. Skoda revealed his electrical enyaq as an identical sister model with great effort and the almost identical ID.4 parked overnight in the shade under an unlit lantern – at least with a power connection. But now Volkswagen also accelerates and wants his ID.4 Put on the big international stage.

And first of all: the potential customers can be happy because the package of the VW ID.4 fits. On the first trips on the test site, the ID convinced.4 With the large battery pack of 82 kWh (77 kWh usable), rear wheel drive and 150 kW / 204 hp. First there will be two battery packs with usable 52 and 77 kWh, which should implement ranges of 360 and 520 kilometers. The maximum loading speed is 125 kilowatts, which means that the ID.4 can strengthen for another 320 kilometers in around half an hour.

There are also rear wheel and all-wheel drive with services of 109, 125, 129 and 150 kW. In the coming year there will be an four -wheel drive model called VW ID.4 GTX, which will be 225 kW / 306 hp and can therefore be 180 km / h fast. The price difference to the comparable ID.3 is around 7.000 euros; means the VW ID.4 starts at the beginning of next year with the pure edition at around 37.000 euros. Already in November / December of this year the two start versions ID.4 First and ID.4 First Max, which, however, 49.000 or. even 59.000 euros cost.

At the wheel of the 4.58 meter long VW ID.4 On the gigantic test track in Ehra-Lessin, a few kilometers north of Wolfsburg, it goes into light terrain despite pure rear wheel drive. With its slightly increased ground clearance and the 21-inch in 255 format, the pseudo-climbing maximum whispering and very solid is. Dirt roads, loose sand and meadows – no problem.
With a small battery package, range is limited
The very smooth steering, the high torque from the start, the low noise level is noticeable thanks to double glass and the small turning circle. "We only get it with a pure electroplay," says Thomas Ulbrich, VW board for the Elektro area, "The Wendekreis is 10.20 meters.“Not only in the field, but especially in the city center, where the ID.4 Especially with the small battery package should have its typical habitat.

It continues to different test routes to the handling course, where the VW ID.4 Despite its weight of around 1.8 tons, mighty by hairpin bends and curves whistled. The maximum torque is between 220 and 310 Nm depending on the engine variant, whereby the ID.4 Thanks to the rear wheel drive, there is no problem to get its strength on the ground. No drive forces in the wheel that are annoying in tight curves, even if the steering is very smooth and, despite the optional 21-inch porridge, could give more information about the nature of the roadway. With changing driving programs, the electric SUV adapts to the driver’s wishes and the conditions on the street when the throttle acceptance and chassis. If it becomes quick and curvy, it goes into sports mode; Otherwise you are well served in the comfort program.

It looks similarly confident at high tempos. The ID moves to the circuit.4 brisk than expected at up to 140 km/h – with a little air to the controlled top speed of 160 km/h. From 0 to 100 km / h, it goes in 8.5 seconds. Only the sports version of the GTX, like the Skoda Enyaq VRS, should be allowed to be fast in the coming year. "Our platform can do even more power," says electric board member Thomas Ulbrich lust for more performance upwards. However, most customers will not look forward to more performance, but will enjoy the good space. Thanks to the 2.77 meter long wheelbase, it is not only at the front, but also in the rear extremely convenient. The instruments behind the wheel are like the ID.3 is too small, which is only partially balanced by the large head-up display. The 12 -inch screen in the middle of the cockpit is better, as well as the different functions control as well as by language or steering wheel. "We have six centimeters more interior than the Tesla Model Y although we are around 19 centimeters shorter," explains Ralf Brandstatter and is already targeting one of the direct competitors. However, this should also be corporate products, because the Skoda Enyaq and the Audi Q4 are technically largely identical to the Wolfsburger hope of hope.

Where should the electricity come from when everyone……….
Then hang e-cars on the power grid and there are no combustion engineers? In addition, the prices are at VW … For simple e-cars in the price of utopian high and certainly not everyone can afford. An electric car would also be cheaper than combustion cars, since fewer material and costs are installed cheaper electronic.
Coal electricity for the electric car
Results in a better efficiency and less CO2 than if every car has its own drive. When all electric cars drive in Germany and load electricity with coal, this is better for the environment than the millions of small explosion engines. The same applies to heating power plants, which is scientifically proven and tried out. Even if you produce the electricity with diesel in the power plant, this is better for the environment. That is not my opinion, what scientists say!
During the day we drive e-car
and at night "refuel" We cabbage current, because our wind turbines deliver too little electricity and the solar systems do not deliver anything at night. This is something great for our conscience! We are "Green"! – To compensate for this gap in the strm supply, we still need 23,000 new wind turbines – each with a reinforced concrete foundation of around 7000 tons. – Let’s become honest: the climate waving does not work as planned. The country needs new ideas!
Environmental protection and critics ?
What I miss with all the criticism of the e-car is why we do the effort. I only read half sentences. Anyone who criticizes the electric cars should please write, z.B. I am against environmental protection because my car can drive 800 km in a row. Or when I go on vacation I need 2 hours longer, so I prefer to burn 80 liters of diesel. How long do we want to burn diesel, 5 years, 50 years, 500 years?
Dear Mr. Bauer
Just a little question with the request for an honest answer: What electricity can we fuel for our car at night? The wind is not enough, there is a fact. So we fill up cabbage stream at night and drive electrically during the day! This efficiency is sensational!
question
Hello, has a car trailer coupling for my caravans to pull? What is range with caravans?.. .
I have a question…
Is the thing for the Greens now too "City tank", which must be banished from the cities? He would always be big and difficult enough…
I don’t see any progress,
The ranges are a bad joke, especially since you have to deduct at least 30 percent from the official information, the loading times are too long, the prices are too high and the electricity is still not coming out of the socket if you find one at all. I start thinking when the range is 800 km (in winter at -10 degrees and 130 km/h average), the loading time under 10 minutes and the price for it below € 35,000. And of course if the power supply is secured, of which there can be no question of the upcoming energy transition.
@ Klaus Berger & Arnold Salenbacher
Utopian demands cannot be fulfilled. It would be exactly as if you would ask for a combustioner to only emit pure air. An electric car with a 100 kWh battery needs the equivalent of only 10 liters to 600 km, i.e. less than 1.7 liters per 100 km. Now count on!
VW Elektro, the endless story
More than 30 years ago one tried to install an electric motor in the T2. The Siemes engine was originally designed for locomotives in mining and, together with the control, heavy and robust and the battery also weighed more than 800kg. Today, the E-drive concept from the VW Up would meet the lightweight T2. A Volkswagen with less mass for more kilometers. Maybe too reasonable.
Too expensive, too ugly, too big
For the city, too little reach for vacation trips, far too few charging points with me as a big city dweller. The next car is clearly a low -consumption combustion engineer.
habitat
The city center as a typical habitat? Of course, SUVs are extremely practical in the big cities in the world, everyone knows that. The plan of VW to build a "world car" with this SUV will surely come true. We live in Tokyo. SUVs can only be seen extremely rare throughout Japan alone due to space constraints. The same applies to China’s metropolitan areas. But VW will definitely find a market.
Mr. Welster
You don’t want to tell us that you want to compare Tokyo or China’s big cities with European nonsense
