VW ID.5 also gets a GTX version-gets

On Wednesday yesterday, VW presented the ID.4 GTX with 220 kW four-wheel drive. The ID.5 will also be available in a GTX version, as VW brand boss Ralf Brandstetter has now officially announced.

This is now reported by Autocar.

According to the official announcement, the ID.5 will start in the second half of 2021. The newcomer is the coupe SUV version of the VW ID.4 (or the VW version of the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback). Its GTX version was teased when the ID.4 GTX was unveiled online. The car appeared in a brightly colored "camouflage color"; fast forward to 7.30 p.m.:

The video shows the same, vertically arranged light spots as on the ID.4 GTX, and the coupe-like lines are clearly recognizable. VW brand boss Ralf Brandstatter himself revealed that this is really the ID.5 GTX. Autocar quotes him with the words:

"Our next coupe is all about the elegance of flowing lines and of course there will also be a GTX version of the ID.5." (Ralf Brandstatter)

According to Autocar, the ID.5 will be launched in the summer as the third ID model – this is a little more specific than the previous announcement for the second half of the year. According to the report, the ID.5 will have practically the same batteries and engines as the ID.4. That would mean: Batteries with 52 and 77 kWh net capacity and rear motors with 109, 125 and 150 kW. Then there would be the ID.5 GTX with a system output of 220 kW.

VW ID.5 also gets a GTX version-version

The ID.5 will initially be manufactured at the VW Zwickau plant alongside the VW ID.3 and ID.4 as well as the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback. The Cupra Born will also start there in the second half of the year. However, ID.4 and ID.5 will later be manufactured in the Emden plant, according to Autocar. MEB vehicles are to be produced in Emden from the end of 2021, as VW officially announced.

Volkswagen wants to bring at least one new ID model onto the market every year. All ID models are based on the modular electrical construction kit (MEB). An electric Bulli is expected for 2022, i.e. the production version of the ID.Buzz. The serial version of the ID.Vizzion will probably follow for 2023.
