VW ID.5 and ID.5 GTX presented: Exclusively with 77 kWh battery-exclusively

Premiere for the first coupe SUV with electric drive from VW: Volkswagen presented the ID.5 this Wednesday before. The coupe-like version of the ID.4 is available with 128 or 150 kW rear-wheel drive and as a GTX with 220 kW all-wheel drive.

The basic shape of the ID.5 had been known from Erlkonigen since April, then VW repeatedly showed the car in yellow-red camouflage film. Now the car can finally be admired in person. The drives don't offer much that is new compared to the ID.4. At least for the market launch, the basic version Pure with 52 kWh battery and 109 kW is missing. All ID.5 versions have the large 77 kWh battery and ranges around 500 kilometers:

  power 0-100 km / h / Vmax Battery / range
ID.5 Pro 128 kW RWD 10.4 seconds / 160 km / h 77 kWh / 520 km
ID.5 Pro Performance 150 kW RWD 8.4 seconds / 160 km / h 77 kWh / 520 km
ID.5 GTX 220 kW AWD 6.3 seconds / 180 km / h 77 kWh / 480 km

The specified WLTP ranges are apparently estimated conservatively, because VW had already spoken of ranges of up to 540 kilometers. Charging is carried out with up to 11 kW alternating current or 135 kW direct current – with the ID.4 a maximum of 125 kW are possible. This should allow you to recharge power for a further 390 km (ID.5) or 320 km (ID.5 GTX) in around 30 minutes.

The option of bidirectional charging is also new. Apparently, this is not yet activated from the market launch. According to the press release, this option will be offered "in the future" "as soon as an appropriate infrastructure is available". The ID.5 should also offer new software (generation 3.0). And of course he benefits from the over-the-air updates that VW wants to offer every twelve weeks.

At 4.60 meters, the car is two centimeters longer than the ID.4, the wheelbase of 2.77 meters is identical – no wonder, after all, the ID.3 also has this wheelbase. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 549 to 1,561 liters; so it is practically the same size as the ID.4 (549 to 1,574 liters).

The ID.5 is produced in Zwickau, Saxony, where ID.3, ID.4 and Cupra Born also roll off the assembly line. VW has not yet given any information on prices or the market launch date.
