VW ID.5: First official data on the coupe-like variant of the ID.4-coupe-like

The first data on the new VW ID.5 is available on the publicly accessible VW website. The coupe-like variant of the ID.4, which has already been spotted several times as Erlkonig, is due to launch in the next few months.

The website shows the red and yellow camouflaged version of the all-wheel drive version ID.5 GTX, which VW brand boss Ralf Brandstatter presented in April. As a special feature compared to the ID.4, the small rear spoiler can be seen on it. It remains unclear at the moment whether the normal ID.5 will also get this, but so far this one could be admired on all Erlkonig.

There is also initial information on the range on the VW website:

"The ID.5 has a range of up to 540 km and the ID.5 GTX of up to 497 km.2" (VW)

Footnote 2 reveals that this is the "forecast WLTP range for the ID.5 with 77 kWh net battery energy content and rear-wheel drive, or for the ID.5 GTX with 77 kWh net battery energy content with dual motor all-wheel drive. " acts.

According to an Autocar report from April, the ID.5 should have practically the same batteries and engines as the ID.4. That would mean: Batteries with 52 and 77 kWh net capacity and rear motors with 109, 125 and 150 kW. In addition, there is the 220 kW all-wheel drive ID.5 GTX.

It is no big surprise that the ID.5 GTX will be available with a 77 kWh battery – the ID.4 GTX only offers this battery. The normal ID.4 is available with 52 kWh (in combination with 109 or 125 kW engine power), while the 77 kWh is only offered in conjunction with 150 kW.

The range of the 150 kW ID.4 with 77 kWh battery is 517 km. According to the new figures, the ID.5 with rear-wheel drive should achieve 540 km, which is 23 km more. The better aerodynamics are probably noticeable here. Similar to the GTX: the all-wheel drive version of the ID.4 is specified with 482 km, with the ID.5 it is 497 km, i.e. 15 km more.

The ID.5 is, so to speak, the VW version of the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron. This is available with the same motor-battery combinations as the normal Q4 e-tron: 125 kW / 52 kWh, 150 kW / 77 kWh and 220 kW / 77 kWh. Audi does not offer the 109 kW engine. The surcharge for the Sportback variant is exactly 2,000 euros. If VW thinks the same, the ID.5 will be available from 39,415 euros – with 109 kW rear-wheel drive and 52 kWh battery.
