220 kW four-wheel drive version with flat rear window
Coupe SUVs are trendy; This is demonstrated by models like the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, the Citroen e-C4 or in the combustion engine world, the new VW Taigo. Volkswagen is also bringing such a model with the ID.5.
The newcomer is the coupe-like version of the ID.4, but it can also be interpreted as a VW version of the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron. The starting point for all these models is the VW Group's modular electrical construction kit (MEB). We were now able to test the sporty GTX variant in a camouflaged version.
We're not allowed to show the interior yet, but we can reveal that there won't be any big surprises here. Compared to the ID.4, only a few trim parts and the like have been changed.
The flatter rear window does not result in significantly less headroom in the rear. Also because the ID.5 is just as high as the ID.4 at 1.61 meters. The width (1.85 meters) is identical, while the ID.5 is three centimeters longer than the ID.4 (4.61 instead of 4.58 meters).
Despite the other rear end, the trunk volume of 543 liters does not change either. The storage volume between the floor and the parcel shelf is the same, but the maximum volume is reduced by the flat rear window.
There is a spoiler on the outside at the rear. There is still no official drag coefficient. There is also no official information on performance, but one can assume 220 kW system performance, the same value as the ID.4 GTX.
The 100 km / h sprint time should then also be around 6.2 seconds, and the top speed will probably also be limited to 180 km / h. It has already been officially confirmed that the battery will have 77 kWh of usable capacity (82 kWh gross). VW has also already mentioned the range: It is 497 kilometers. Charging is likely with 11 kW alternating current or up to 125 kW direct current.

Otherwise, the ID.5 GTX has stiffer springs and a lowering of 15 millimeters. As with the VW Golf 8 GTI, an electronic "driving dynamics manager" controls the steering parameters, the setting of the adaptive shock absorbers, the electric motors at the front and rear and thus also the all-wheel drive.
We could not find any noteworthy differences in driving behavior compared to the ID.4 GTX in our test. We can only evaluate in a more detailed test whether the stiffer chassis leads to less swaying when cornering or whether the different shape of the roof results in a different driving behavior when changing direction.

VW ID.5 also gets a GTX version
