Among the luxury cars, the VW Multivan is one of the inconspicuous vehicles. Those who want a more presentable appearance choose Edition 25. And pay 60,000 euros.

F.A well-equipped sports car or a high-horsepower business limousine is available for just under 60,000 euros. Or the VW Multivan Edition 25 – the luxury variant among the family transporters.

Even if it lags behind when it comes to driving pleasure and prestige, it is definitely a pleasure – for up to seven people. And optically, it can compete with the sleek cars.

Lifestyle van

Large black 18-inch rims, tinted windows, a white body with decorative stripes and the black painted roof transform the bus into a veritable lifestyle truck.

Inside, however, the comparatively sober style remains, even if carpets and decorative elements clad the bare metal van comfortably. But it doesn’t matter, because everything is solid, well made and correspondingly robust.

The solidity of the material is also not entirely unimportant, as the Multivan invites you to create new spaces by moving, relocating and removing the furniture.

Luggage compromise

There is space for up to seven passengers – as long as there is no luggage space, even with legroom like in First Class.

If suitcases and bags need to be on board, the stalls can be pushed towards the cockpit until the right compromise between passenger and luggage space is found.

If you need a lot of storage space, you can quickly expand one or the other seat. In addition, the middle seats can be swiveled, so that in combination with the rear bench and the folding table provided, a very comfortable five-seat group is created.

If necessary, the Multivan can also be used as a bedroom or office. The renovation and expansion work is not as easy as with the smaller car-based vans, but the possibilities are more diverse and the space available is greater.

While the youngsters in the rear could theoretically play football or catch, the driver shouldn’t be neglected either. On request, he can direct the top diesel with bi-turbocharger and 180 hp, which directs its power to all four wheels, from his well-organized command post high above the road.

188 km / h are possible

A beefy 400 Nm maximum torque is available, which is distributed powerfully and evenly between the low revs and around 4000 tours by the two-stage turbo duo in division of labor. The Multivan does not become a left-lane sprinter (it takes 12.2 seconds up to 100 km / h), but it becomes an extremely relaxed and confident travel companion that can go up to 188 km / h.

Only the poorer noise insulation compared to a car tarnishes the relaxed impression a bit. The manufacturer specifies a standard consumption of 8.4 liters for the version with a manual six-speed gearbox, which can be achieved with careful driving.

In addition to the eye-catching look, the sports suspension is part of the edition models. Although it minimizes the rolling movements that are clearly present in the standard model, it has a somewhat negative impact on driving comfort due to its undue hardness. The bottom line is that the Multivan can hide its commercial vehicle purpose quite well.

A Multivan has never been inexpensive. And that applies in particular to the pimped up edition variant. The top model with the powerful diesel and all-wheel drive will cost at least 56,251 euros.

If you can do without the traction support, you get it with 53,044 euros.

With air conditioning as standard, fog lights with cornering lights, daytime running lights and driving light assistants, tire control displays and rain sensors, the lifestyle bus is well equipped for this.

The price goes towards 70,000 euros

With parking aids, a panoramic roof, automatic air conditioning and a DVD system, the price can easily reach 70,000 euros.
