VW remains faithful plug-in hybrids - also in the future-faithful

Initially, the number appeared as a pure luck. When the “best two worlds” were advertised plug-in hybrids, in which just a motor with piston service does, but also at least one with winding. The idea: usually the everyday propulsion from a battery in the ground – it has to roll faster or continue, one goes by old burning custom.

Prima, politics also thought and honored the part-time stromas with lush perks. Grant when buying – but above all only half the set in taxation as a company car. Who is at least part of his routes electrically on the way, so the argument, have deserved from climate protection reasons white God BARES.

Meanwhile, the euphoria has waxed. Finally, priority thick double hearts a la Cayenne, Q7 and X5 massive inflow – the battery radius was not uncommonly modest and nobody can – or better: wants to control how often the combustion chambers have closed at all at all. Finally, the tax privilege applies regardless of whether the car is moved only a single meter with electricity. Real sustainability looks different then.

And so the plug-in hybrid is a little bit in disguise. Finally, he also units the evil two worlds, say critics. Tenor: Double technology finally costs unnecessary money – and most of the time you either drive an obsolete combustion or a superfluous battery. This has apparently seen in the Berlin government district after a long time, where you have traditionally a well-woven look in terms of company cars.

The episode: For the enjoyment of the reduced tax rate, a double heart from January 2022 must be purely electrically at least 60 kilometers, from 2025 even 90. Incidentally, not the date of the order, but that of the delivery. Optionally, an emission of less than 50 grams of CO2 per kilometer meets the criteria. This brings the first manufacturer to destroy the former “bridge technology”. For example, Daimler plans no further developments, the responsible boss Markus Schafer relied on the edge of the IAA Mobility.

Volkswagen Indes sees in plug-in models still neat potential. In Wolfsburg, finally, one wants to keep an eye on those who have rarely have to complete larger routes or are likely to be traveling with trailers. Both criteria, in which pure e-cars reach quickly at limits – be it at physics or comfort. In the duet of both techniques, according to the philosophy, the environment is still a significant profit to the burner.

Statistics give such considerations right. After all, 95 percent of all daily rides are less than 50 kilometers, almost two-thirds even under ten. Best prerequisites so to be largely in battery mode. And so VW brought 80 last year.000 Plug-in hybrids to man and woman – already 75.000 were it alone in the first half of 2021.

With Golf, Passat, Arteon, Tiguan and Touareg, however, Wolfsburgs are also broadly set up in terms of double heart. As for dimensions and motorization. Rather economical in the Ehybrid variants – rather athletic in the versions GTE. Spacious and compact, for up and beside the track.

And with lots of know-how. In 2007, the first GTE GTE in series – still with 8.8 kWh in the battery. Today, 13 kWh can be saved in the identical space. Also software and battery management have developed. And at the 1.4-liter engine, the cylinders now wear a plasma layer. Condensation, which could form in the engine breaks, should not have an opportunity for corrosion.

Nevertheless, the engine is shortly before pension. From 2023, the 1.5-liter petrol engine is used – the Group’s all-purpose weapon is currently being optimized for the specific conditions of technological interaction. Number two: From this point on, then fast DC load for the battery should be possible. Currently passing for the full pack almost four hours.

A little head break is currently still preparing the flagship. In the Touareg of the third generation works – unlike in the other Ehybrid models – a longitudinally built-in V6 with three liters displacement. He brings it to electricity help at 381 hp and in the R version even at 461 – but also to 60, respectively 63 grams of CO2 and just a maximum of 46 kilometers battery radius. So he rips in terms of company car tax in the future both specifications.

However, the number of faithful is great. Especially under those who are traveling with trailers. After all, two of three customers orders the Touareg with swivel hook. For all precedence for the climate: Sometimes it has to be a heavy device and purely electrical replacement is not in sight. Whether landscape gardener, boatbuilders, rider or camping friend – who has to pull properly, would miss king ball head.

Rescue Indes seems possible. A larger battery is certainly no longer awarded to the sovereign two and a half toner – under 50 grams of CO2, they want to take him somehow. So much model maintenance should have a flagship also deserved.

  1. From the article:

“.. under 50 grams of CO2 However, you want to [the Touareg with 3-L-V6 engine] then still somehow bring. So much model maintenance should have a flagship also deserved.”

  2. Should one laugh or cry now? The electric motor can move tons of tons of trucks, but with e-cars he fails on a horse trailer? – Probably VW wants to continue to sell expensive PHEVs.

VW probably did not learn much from the diesels scandal and now tries to keep it with trailer cheating to keep the burner of winning will continue to live – environmental protection does not matter?

At 2.5 tons, a large battery can be installed, Z.B. 98 kWh with 560 kg (from Akasol), with horse trailer and adapted pace about 300 km range – or 147 kWh, 840 kg and 450 km.

  3. Anyone who buys the purebred BEV manufacturer does not need to make allegations to support the manufacturer, which is the first to be the first in the Volume Market Commercial and ganguligic scams introduced to exhaust systems and practiced for years.
The details are still spicy than well known, see today’s press.
Forgot but is human, so everyone can spend the climate protection schOn speech.

  4. Hopefully here does the last HONK, how serious it really is the VW Group with the environment !!!
    Maybe something affects the purchase decision of one or the other to alternatives &# 128521;

  5. I hold the hybrid technology for a huge pipe crècher, which can only survive thanks to taxation subsidies. Technically and energetically not useful. Only exception may the hybrid system of the FA. Obrist, where a relatively small battery, is reloaded by a very small engine / generator. When the engine is running, he always works in the optimal workspace.
But if I look at the current development of the batteries and the charging infrastructure, you should believe I do not put any energy in the development there. Especially since you have to rebuild a Tesla m3.

  6. I like to believe that VW still sees a big potential in Phevs. To make strong coal again shortly before leaving the burner.

How was that exactly with the Greenspurig-announced green image of this group? When it comes to short-term profits, it is with the environmental idea.

The advanced arguments are all attractive. VW could, something good will and consequence in the environment assumed, easily produce a car for the long-distance.

Mercedes showed the EQC like that could go. Not to mention the New Tesla Model S. But as long as these corporations are manager at the work, which are more important in their short term of short-term gains, nothing changes there.
