VW has adapted the Tiguan to the current brand face and offers new engines. Suddenly the compact off-road climber consumes as little as a small car.

I.In the course of the model revision, there are also new engines and assistance systems in addition to the modified front design. The five-seater, which is available with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive, is intended to defend its status as the best-selling model in its class in Germany.

The external changes are not surprising. As with all of the brand’s models, with the exception of the Fox small car, which is soon to be phased out, the Tiguan now also features the new grill, which extends to the headlights that have also been redesigned.

The option of choosing between two front sections is retained: one with a sloping bottom for off-road driving and a conventional one for customers who prefer to stay on paved roads. For the first time, however, the off-road front can be combined with the top equipment line.

New engines and technical helpers expand the range

The range of technical helpers has been increased. The Tiguan can now be equipped with an assistant for keeping in lane and glare-free use of the high beam. For the first time, drowsiness detection and an electronic differential lock are also being offered.

The engine range is expanded. Two turbocharged petrol engines with 1.4 and 2.0 liters displacement and output values of 160 PS and 210 PS are new. With the smaller of the two, you can choose between all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive, the larger is only available in combination with two driven axles.

The other of the now seven engines have been revised and are now partly more powerful and more economical.

There is also a new option to order the 140 hp diesel with front-wheel drive; This reduces consumption by around half a liter to 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

The price list starts at 24,175 euros. The Tiguan’s main competitors include the Ford Kuga, BMW X1 and the upcoming Audi Q3.
