Why the next E-Class will drive away from everyone
Mercedes wants to let the star shine brightly. The next E-Class will set new standards in terms of safety technology and will even overtake the S-Class
Source: Daimler
The next Mercedes E-Class is on what is currently the most modern platform at Daimler. Debut: Spring 2016. The timing is perfect. The competition followed for more than twelve months.
D.he timing for Mercedes is very good. When the Stuttgart-based company brings the next generation of its E-Class (internal W 213) to the dealership in spring 2016, business customers will be enticed for more than a year with the most modern innovations currently available in automotive engineering.
BMW will not come with the new 5 Series until 2017, Audi will only present its A6 at the beginning of 2018. The E-Class will celebrate its trade fair premiere in January at the Detroit Auto Show. The station wagon version (T model) is on the plan for May / June. A little later there will be a kind of "outdoor" version for the first time, set a little higher and given a more rustic look, similar to what Audi successfully practices with the Allroad Avant.
Mercedes is already taking a look at the cards on the topics of safety and driver assistance. The E-Class is set to set standards again and will initially even overtake the S-Class. In the area of passive safety, customers can order an air cushion in the seat flanks, which in the event of an impact from the side inflates at lightning speed exactly two tenths of a second before the impact and pushes the person sitting in front laterally inwards.
The V-Class is the largest Mercedes car

Mercedes is again offering the successor to the Viano MPV as a V-Class. That was the name of the bus from 1996 to 2003. But neither as a V-Class nor as a Viano was it really right…ig successful, but too much commercial vehicle and too few passenger cars. Anyone who wanted a good minibus bought a VW bus. That could change now, because …

… the new V-Class is very successful. The brand’s largest car model is available in two wheelbases and three vehicle lengths from 4.90 to 5.14 meters to 5.38 meters. At our Tes…For the wagon, the rear window could be opened separately in order to be able to stow smaller loads in a parking space without letting the spacious rear door swing upwards. A very handy paid extra (1654 euros).

If you open the rear window separately, you have the option of storing your purchases in two baskets on a kind of hill.

The second sliding door is also recommended (854 euros); this makes it much easier for passengers to get on and off.

There are six individual seats in three rows as standard, up to eight seats are possible. The individual seats in the rear can be moved forwards and backwards on rails, and…d they should be able to be expanded quite easily if more space is required. However, when we tried to expand a seat, we failed. There can be no talk of child’s play of installation and removal here.

V-Class customers can choose between the 200 CDI with 136 HP, the 220 CDI with 163 HP and the 250 Bluetec with 190 HP, the latter is also available with all-wheel drive.

Nothing in the cockpit is reminiscent of the sterile workplace of a commercial vehicle. Decorative elements in piano lacquer look, meticulous workmanship and the curved dashboard – all …that is reminiscent of the current C-Class.

The engineers were also allowed to use the assistance systems from the car shelf. Distance radar with collision warning, blind spot, lane departure warning and crosswind assistant. The best thing, however, is the ease with which the long, inevitably box-shaped trolley can be moved. With the rather small steering wheel from the C-Class… you always have the V-Class under control.

And even parking is easy with the V-Class – at least if you have also ordered the rear-view camera, which costs 631 euros.

New camera, ultrasound and radar systems allow the E-Class to travel semi-autonomously and brake more independently than ever before. For example, it recognizes the end of a traffic jam with three blocked lanes without any possibility of evasion and thus initiates emergency braking much earlier than before. The new E-Class can follow the vehicle in front up to a speed of 200 km / h.
Up to 130 km / h you don’t even need the white lines on the road, but the car is oriented towards the rest of the traffic flow. Mercedes calls it "swarm behavior". In the future, the car can also be opened and closed with a smartphone, as well as remotely controlled into tight parking spaces or the garage.
Here, however, the Stuttgart-based company had BMW take the sausage off the bread. Bayern are already offering this feature for 500 euros in the new 7 Series. To achieve this, Mercedes wants to shine with so-called Car-to-X communication by installing it in a car for the first time. It is intended to warn of dangers early on, for example, of an accident behind a curve.
In 2016 the E-Class comes with a plug-in hybrid drive
As with the C-Class (W 205), the body consists of a mixed construction of steel, aluminum and magnesium and is expected to shed around 100 kilograms compared to the current generation. There is talk of almost ten centimeters in length. Visually, the E- will be based on the S-Class, a tribute to the good aerodynamics.
Mercedes plans to be the leader in this discipline in every segment. In principle, the E-Class also takes over the huge TFT display in the dashboard from its bigger brother, but simplifies operation. The customer can also choose between a conventional rotary push button or a large touchpad on the center console.
This is what the Mercedes of the future will look like

The drives will initially remain with the familiar V6 engines, the newly designed in-line six will follow from 2017. Only the old 2.2-liter diesel will be replaced by a two-liter four-cylinder, which will of course be lighter, smoother and more economical. With the gasoline engines, entry also begins with a two-liter turbo (M 274).
For him, the goal for CO2 emissions is “less than 100 g / km”. It would be a record in the segment. A plug-in hybrid drive (E 350 e) will be in the E-Class in 2016. The coupe and convertible derivatives will follow in 2017.
Both should differ more in the front design than before from the sedan. Both of them will also be taken under the wing of AMG and will, among other things, have the more than 500 PS strong V8 heart from the GT implanted.
Last year, Mercedes sold 257,571 E-Class vehicles (sedans and station wagons) worldwide, an increase of 6.2 percent compared to 2013. With the W 213 series, the Stuttgart-based company wants to defend its leadership in this segment.
