Worldwide supplier is partner: PEM cooperated with Marelli for E-engines-marelli

The Chair “Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components” (PEM) of RWTH Aachen works now with the Japanese-Italian automotive supplier Marelli. The recently made agreement for cooperation should focus on new technologies for electric cars and the associated manufacturing processes.

“It needs strong networks and pioneering spirit to drive great innovation,” says Prof. Achim Kampker, founder and head of the PEM. “We won an excellent partner with which we bring the electric drive forwards.”Marelli had built a new work for electric vehicle engines in Cologne in the first half of the current year and worked with the experts from Aachen.

In its new framework agreement, Marelli and PEM are now planning cooperation in concrete research projects. They should refer to increasing the continuation of E-motors as well as the development of a new electric motor and its production in a so-called scale-up factory.

Cooperation also sought for energy and battery management

Since the PEM holds a leading role in the German research production of battery cells in Munster, both partners also strive for a cooperation in energy and battery management for electric vehicles. Marelli has many years of experience in this area as a leading provider of thermal management solutions.

“With this new cooperation, two pioneers of vehicle electrification combine their powers,” says Dr. Joachim Fetzer, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer by Marelli: “While the PEM is known for its profound expertise in this area, Marelli has a unique portfolio as a complete system provider for electric powertrains.”With around 58.000 employees worldwide represented Marelli at 170 production sites as well as research and development centers in Asia, North and South America, Europe and Africa. 2020, the company generated sales of around 10.4 billion euros.
