Euro NCAP crash test: zero stars! Electric car Renault Zoe fails in the crash test
Eleven new vehicles passed the latest Euro NCAP crash test. Most were rated at the top of five stars, with two still getting a good four. However, two electric cars failed.
The Renault Zoe was not awarded a single star, the Dacia Spring received one. The verdict on the 2020 lifted Zoe, one of the most successful electric cars on the market, is almost devastating. The change from the side airbag in the seat to the thorax airbag, which took place as part of the revision, is a step backwards, the safety experts complain. In addition, the Renault generally lacks assistance systems.
Airbag defects, too few assistants
The same applies to the Dacia Spring, which – according to Euro NCAP – is primarily designed for the demands of emerging countries. The Stromer is also sold in Germany. The results of other manufacturers show that e-cars can also be safe. There were five stars for the electric BMW iX, the two Genesis models G70 and GV70, the electric Mercedes EQS, the Nissan Qashqai and Skoda Fabia and for the VW Caddy.
Particularly embarrassing for the French from Renault and Dacia: The Chinese are now apparently building safer Stromer. The Fiat 500e and the MG Marvel R – the manufacturer MG comes from China and partly produces in Great Britain – achieved four stars in the crash test. (awm)
